poor people out of health coverage, while balancing his state’s budget.
While it may make sense logically that members of
Congress would hold out on forming an opinion while waiting for
evidence, it makes absolutely no sense that they would then work
fervently to eliminate any means of getting that evidence -- unless of
course they have no interest in the truth or evidence.
The measure, which was passed on a voice vote with little debate, would reduce Amtrak’s authorized spending level for new construction from approximately $1.3 billion per year under the last Amtrak funding measure to about $770 million annually beginning next year.Republicans and Democrats on the panel said the measure was bipartisan, despite the construction budget cut, because it does not go as far as previous GOP efforts to completely eliminate Amtrak’s federal funding and privatize its profitable Northeast routes.…Republicans said the new measure would keep funding levels in line for the company while forcing them to streamline their operations when it came to construction.
The problem with Walker’s tweet was that they were
off by 97 years. The first settlers did arrive in May of 1607, but 2015
minus 1607 is 408, not 505. With this kind of math is no wonder that
Scott Walker has driven the Wisconsin economy straight into the ground.
Team Walker later corrected their math error by calling it a Twitter
typo.

There are a lot of anti-government billions out there just waiting to be put to such good purpose.
Murray’s book is being met with rapturous anticipation among the right wingers. This may be the big “new idea” they’ve been waiting for. Fighting regulations is the new organizing concept that’s really animating the conservative intelligentsia in this age of GOP congressional dominance. The idea of a tyrannical president issuing orders to executive agencies, as if that constitutes a coup, is a powerful motivating narrative for the red-meat crowd...
Of course, if a Republican becomes president, the whole idea becomes moot. The billionaires would withdraw to their counting rooms to add up their profits while the GOP executive makes their job unnecessary. The fact that they are contemplating this assault through the legal system is an admission that they don’t really believe they’ll have the political power to do this any time soon.

Back in March of 2013, Rush Limbaugh, who has been married four times, lamented about
marriage equality, “The issue is lost. I don’t care what the Supreme
Court does. This is inevitable. And it’s inevitable because we lost the
language on this.” They have left their churches because of social issues and the evolution of their churches to social areas they didn’t want to go and don’t feel comfortable being in. If you look at the evangelical churches, they haven’t lost anything. Their membership is holding pretty steady. Where the message has remained, where the mission has remained the same, where the members of the church don’t think any corruption is taking place. They’re still hanging in there.Some might say, the churches that haven’t fallen pray to the dark side. All of this silly social evolution.
The choice of the way of intolerance by the authorities of cult and empire in the late fourth century has had some very serious and lasting consequences. The last vestiges of its practical effects, in the form of the imposition of at least petty and vexatious disabilities on forms of religion not approved by the local ecclesiastical establishment, lasted in some European countries well into my lifetime. And theoretical approval of this sort of intolerance has often long outlasted the power to apply it in practice. After all, as late as 1945 many approved Roman catholic theologians in England, and the Roman authorities, objected to a statement on religious freedom very close to Vatican II’s declaration on that subject. In general, I do not think that any christian body has ever abandoned the power to persecute and repress while it actually had it. The acceptance of religious tolerance and freedom as good in themselves has normally been the belated, though sometimes sincere and whole-hearted, recognition and acceptance of a fait accompli. This long persistence of Theodosian intolerance in practice and its still longer persistence in theory has certainly been a cause, though not the only cause, of that unique phenomenon of our time, the decline not only of christianity but all forms of religious belief and the growth of a totally irreligious and unspiritual materialism.[1]
