Rick Perry Self Destructs And Blames His Flaming Stupidity On Having A Bad Back

Rick Perry imploded today when during a Fox News Sunday interview he tried to blame his stupidity on the fact that he has a bad back.

Fox News Sunday’s Chris Wallace asked Perry what went wrong in 2012, and Perry answered with the lamest excuse possible.

Perry said, “I would recommend anybody running for the presidency make sure you’re healthy. I’d had major back surgery, and I didn’t prepare properly, and I think the real issue there was I thought being governor of the state of Texas for twelve years was enough preparation to run for presidency and the fact of the matter is, there’s nothing like it, and until you’ve done it, you don’t even realize what a challenge it is. These broad array of issues that you have to have more than just passing knowledge of.”

Wallace asked Perry what he learned, and the former Texas governor responded, “Well, number one, you gotta be healthy, and secondly, you gotta prepare, and it takes years of preparation, I would suggest to you.”

In this interview, Rick Perry admitted that he is lazy, makes bad decisions, and he is unprepared. The foundation of his presidential campaign appears to be vote for me because my back doesn’t hurt, and I studied this time.

President Kennedy had a bad back, but that didn’t cause him to start World War III during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Millions of Americans have bad backs, but their back pain doesn’t make them lazy and stupid.

What would happen if Rick Perry were president and his back acted up again? Would he blow up the world, and then apologize later because his back was hurting so he didn’t study up on the issue?

Perry’s faceplant was even more stunning because he planned it. He blamed his back during the first question of the interview. Perry didn’t make an ill-advised gaffe. His reason for his horrible 2012 campaign is that he was coming off of back surgery and didn’t prepare to run.

Religious House Republicans Plan To Deny Contraception Access to 4.6 Million Women

There is no other reason for Republicans to try defunding Title X than denying family planning services and contraception from women.…

There is something to be said about Republicans and their never-change direction agenda that may be related to their “wingnut” affliction. For the past five years one of the primary goals of Republicans they just cannot abandon is fulfilling the demands of the United States coven of catholic bishops to ban contraception use in America. It was not enough that the Papal-5 on the Supreme Court ruled that religious employers could restrict their employees’ use of birth control, so now Republicans have resorted to their annual attempt to eliminate the Title X program that provides family planning services, including contraceptives, to roughly 4.6 million impoverished women. As usual, since Republicans in the House control the nation’s purse strings, they are using the 2016 budget to eliminate all funding for Title X and finally end the program that has been one of their cherished goals since taking control of the House in 2011.

When the Title X program was created in 1970 under Republican president Richard Nixon, the concept of federally-funded family planning services had overwhelming support from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who acknowledged the pressing need to make birth control more accessible to impoverished American women.  Republicans and Democrats both agreed with former president Nixon that being poor should not mean a woman had to be perpetually pregnant. But that was long before Republicans won control of the House in 2010 when, instead of fulfilling their campaign pledge to create jobs, they declared a religious war on women and defunding the federal program became their raison d’être as hardcore theocrats. One of the first items the Republican-controlled House voted on in 2011 was dismantling Title X and they did vote to completely eliminate the then-forty one year old program along strict party lines.

Over the past five years, the evangelical Republican war to abolish the now 45 year old family planning program was successfully thwarted by a Democratic-controlled Senate. However, now with a Koch Senate repaying evangelicals for getting out to vote in 2014, it looks like Republican theocrats will finally do right by the Vatican, eradicate Title X, and deprive at least 4.6  million women from having access to reproductive care including safe, dependable contraceptives, cancer and STD screenings, and assistance in planning when to start their families. It would be the ultimate wet dream for evangelical Republicans and vatican loyalists to see several million, mostly poor women, denied family planning services and access to contraception; it is just what 'good' evangelical and catholic Republicans have panted to accomplish for the past five years.

Before 2010, support for Title X had broad bipartisan support and most legislators agreed with then-president Richard Nixon who said on Title X’s inception that, “It is my view that no American woman should be denied access to family planning assistance because of her economic condition.” Of course that was long before Republicans became vatican puppets and women, although still thought of as second class citizens in 1970, were not yet relegated to the role of being perpetual birth machines by evangelical Republicans.

The proposal from the House Appropriations Committee also reveals the Republican intent to eliminate most of the Affordable Care Act, eliminate as much federal funding from comprehensive sex education and teen pregnancy prevention programs that will increase the number of abortions, and give religious employers much greater power and authority to refuse health insurance coverage that includes reproductive services, including contraception, on evangelical christian and vatican loyalty grounds; likely in anticipation of the new and friendlier pope’s upcoming visit with Congress. The Republican-led committee held a religious hearing on the proposal to end family planning services to 4.6 women on Wednesday; sans Papal attendance.

As reproductive rights advocates and family planning providers have warned for four years, Title X is already suffering from some very serious, and very deliberate, budget shortfalls the advocates assert will have nothing but disastrous consequences for millions of poor families in America, but to no avail. Obviously, disastrous consequences for millions of poor women are precisely what evangelical Republicans and vatican loyalists have championed over the past six years, and now they see a prime opportunity to do their political worst.

In fact, according to the president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Cecile Richards, “This is politics at its worst. Cutting the Title X Family Planning program will leave nearly 4.6 million people without care. If Republican leaders in Congress think they can take away millions of women’s access to health care and shut down programs that are reducing teen pregnancy (and preventing abortions) without one hell of a fight, they have another thing coming.” With all due respect to Ms. Richards, the fight she implies is coming is not just against politicians in Congress. It is against evangelical Republicans, a cabal of religio-wingnut clergy, the vatican, the Supreme Court, religious corporations, and the patriarchal United States coven of catholic bishops; the group behind the drive to ban contraception use in the United States whether by eliminating Title X or pushing the phony religious liberty ploy to control women that began with Hobby Lobby and continues by denying 4.6 million poor women family planning and contraception access.

Results of research conducted by the Guttmacher Institute reveals that 20 million women, nearly all of them impoverished, in this uber-wealthy nation desperately need access to publicly-funded contraception, but Title X clinics historically have only met barely one third of that need. The situation has been getting even worse in recent years by Republican design. As a result of the shrub-Republican Great Recession, more Americans fell into poverty and Title X’s patient load increased nearly as dramatically as its budget was slashed by the same Republicans responsible for the recession. Now, just as the unmet need for affordable birth control has increased substantially, some of the poorest women in the country face being restricted from getting the desperately-needed access to the family planning services they need; again, it is all by the Republicans’ theocratic design.

There is no other reason for Republicans to try defunding Title X than denying family planning services and contraception from women. It certainly is not a budget, debt, deficit, or fiscal responsibility issue or Republicans would not propose hundreds-of-billions of dollars in tax cuts for the rich, spend well over half the entire nation’s budget on war when the country is not at war, or continue giving unfunded and unnecessary subsidies to the oil, pharmaceutical, agriculture, or church industries if their issue with Title X was about economics. No, this is about religion, specifically the religions, evangelical christians and vatican, that believe every woman in America should be like Michelle Duggar and stay perpetually in birthing mode. Still, although there is an outcry at the idea of eliminating Title X, no-one is willing to cite the real source of this hateful war against women’s access to reproductive health care and particularly contraception. Although the war is being waged by Republican legislators, they are driven by religion and it is high time family planning advocates start admitting that the real problem is evangelicals and catholic ideology getting nearer to their goal of banning contraception.

The world is embarking on its sixth mass extinction with animals disappearing about 100 times faster than they used to, scientists warned, and humans could be among the first victims

The world is embarking on its sixth mass extinction with animals disappearing about 100 times faster than they used to, scientists warned Friday, and humans could be among the first victims.

Not since the age of the dinosaurs ended 66 million years ago has the planet been losing species at this rapid a rate, said a study led by experts at Stanford University, Princeton University and the University of California, Berkeley.

The study "shows without any significant doubt that we are now entering the sixth great mass extinction event," said co-author Paul Ehrlich, a Stanford University professor of biology.

And humans are likely to be among the species lost, said the study -- which its authors described as "conservative" -- published in the journal Science Advances.

"If it is allowed to continue, life would take many millions of years to recover and our species itself would likely disappear early on," said lead author Gerardo Ceballos of the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico.

The analysis is based on documented extinctions of vertebrates, or animals with internal skeletons such as frogs, reptiles and tigers, from fossil records and other historical data.

The modern rate of species loss was compared to the "natural rates of species disappearance before human activity dominated."

It can be difficult to estimate this rate, also known as the background rate, since humans don't know exactly what happened throughout the course of Earth's 4.5 billion year history.

For the study, researchers used a past extinction rate that was twice as high as widely used estimates.

If the past rate was two mammal extinctions per 10,000 species per 100 years, then the "average rate of vertebrate species loss over the last century is up to 114 times higher than it would be without human activity, even when relying on the most conservative estimates of species extinction," said the study.

"We emphasize that our calculations very likely underestimate the severity of the extinction crisis because our aim was to place a realistic lower bound on humanity's impact on biodiversity."

The causes of species loss range from climate change to pollution to deforestation and more.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, about 41 percent of all amphibian species and 26 percent of all mammals are threatened with extinction.

"There are examples of species all over the world that are essentially the walking dead," Ehrlich said.

The study called for "rapid, greatly intensified efforts to conserve already threatened species, and to alleviate pressures on their populations -- notably habitat loss, over-exploitation for economic gain and climate change."

Rick Snyder breaks promise, signs anti-gay 'religious freedom' bill on adoption

On second thought... just kidding about that statement a couple months ago.

Two months ago, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder announced that he wouldn't sign a "religious freedom" bill. Today, he did just that. Snyder signed three bills into law that will allow publicly-funded adoption agencies to decline services to same-sex couples based on religious grounds.
It's a far cry from this statement, which Snyder made in April:

"Given all the events that are happening in Indiana, I thought it would be good to clarify my position," he said. "I would veto RFRA legislation in Michigan if it is a standalone piece of legislation."

Maybe he didn't consider them "standalone," since these three anti-gay bills were bundled together.
Snyder, who prides himself on being a business focused pro-jobs governor (his twitter account is "@onetoughnerd") has now proven himself to be a guy who simply bends to the political winds. A couple months ago, the RFRA didn't look so good based on Indiana's blow-back. But this month, meh, why not?
If Snyder thinks this will attract jobs to Michigan, he is dead wrong. If he has any future political aspirations, this broken promise will hound him. And if he ever had a conscience, he seems to have lost it. After all, he's not Gov. Mike Pence—who's an actual true believer. Instead, Snyder's simply a sell out to political expediency now. Hard to know which is worse.
An estimated 3,000 kids in Michigan right now await placement in a home. Another 3,460 kids are currently being raised by lesbian, gay and bisexual parents in the Great Lakes State. But that doesn't matter to places like Catholic Charities of Shiawassee & Genesee Counties and it clearly doesn't matter to Snyder.
Though Snyder's statement said he was focused on "ensuring that as many children are adopted to as many loving families as possible," the Williams Institute found the three bills would instead ensure that some of those 3,460 adopted kids "would have remained in foster care for a longer period of time."

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders drew big applause from the crowd at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Conference when called out Republicans by saying that only cowards would get elected than pass laws to suppress the vote.

In his speech, Sanders directly called out Republican efforts to suppress the Latino vote, “In addition to immigration reform, we must also pursue policies that empower minority communities. This must start with energizing Latinos all across the country to engage in the democratic process and by thwarting efforts to disenfranchise minority voters. Restricting access through draconian voter ID laws and shortening early voting periods are thinly-veiled efforts to marginalize communities of color, low income people and seniors. These policies must be combatted at both the state and federal levels.”

He also repeated his support for legal status and a path to citizenship, “The bottom line of all of this is that It is time to bring our neighbors out of the shadows. It is time to give them legal status. It is time to create a reasonable and responsible path to citizenship.”

Bernie Sanders hit on something that many opponents of voter suppression don’t talk about often enough. The act of passing laws that are designed to prevent targeted groups of people from voting is cowardly.

Republicans can win a fair contest based on ideas, so they try to rig the game by reducing the size and shaping the composition of the electorate. Republicans violate the very democratic principles that the country was built on when they engage in voter suppression.

Voter suppression is a moral issue, and the Republican support for suppressing the vote demonstrates a party wide lack of character.

Bernie Sanders said what many others didn’t. Republicans are cowards who are stealing the votes of millions of Americans. The best way for the Republican efforts to steal the vote is for an outraged and informed electorate to come together and fight back.

CBO Drops Reality Bomb On Republicans: Repealing Obamacare Will Add $353 Billion to the Deficit

A new CBO report shows that Republicans want to repeal your healthcare so they can add $353 billion over the next ten years to the deficit.

The Congressional Budget Office released a report Friday that showed America just what deficit hawks who have no healthcare reform plan of their own Republicans really are.

Republicans want to repeal your healthcare so they can add $353 billion over the next ten years to the deficit. It is projected to add $3 trillion to the deficit in the ten years after that. Yes, $3 trillion.

The Republican horror show doesn’t end there. Over the next ten years, 24 million people would lose their health insurance. About 19 million people would lose insurance next year alone, according to the CBO.

“The CBO is projecting that repealing the Affordable Care Act will add more than $350 billion to the deficit in the next ten years, and add a staggering $3 trillion to the deficit in the ten years after that.” Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said in a statement. “Even under Republicans’ highly controversial ‘dynamic’ scoring math, the CBO finds that repeal will explode the deficit by more than $100 billion – not counting the increased health care costs from erasing the Affordable Care Act’s emphasis on prevention.”

Pelosi pointed out that there would be a human toll to the Republican repeal plan, something that Republicans refuse to acknowledge, “The cost to the deficit would be surpassed only by the human toll of repeal. Republicans would add over 20 million Americans to the ranks of the uninsured, and strip vital health protections from hundreds of millions of American families – shattering the newfound health security that has made a difference in the lives of so many families.”

Well. Okay.

That’s some Republican math right there. Want more Republican math? With the Republican assist (aka, funny math that benefits Republicans) that they legislated into the formerly non-partisan CBO, known as “dynamic scoring”, Republicans would only be on the hook for adding $137 billion to the deficit over 10 years. So that’s still not good. And of course it’s not real. But it’s better than them owning up to reality.

The Republican plan is more people die and we add hundreds of billions to the deficit, but we pretend it’s only $137 billion because image is everything.

Meanwhile we await a Republican alternative plan. It’s only been twenty years or so since this issue really became urgent. Give them time.

Pelosi added, “Republicans should look at the numbers and finally end their fixation with repealing this historic law.”

But of course, Leader Pelosi knows that Republicans don’t look at numbers. They make up numbers to fit their agenda. So, here’s to adding $3 trillion to the deficit whilst killing millions of Americans over the next 20 years. Maybe in 20 years Republicans will finally manage to come up with an alternative policy to present. Or not.

Somewhere President Obama must be laughing as the biggest trolls of the deficit and of his healthcare reform law get called out by the CBO even after they rigged it in their favor. Republicans want to add a mere $3 trillion to the deficit in order to keep Obama from a win. Y’all don’t mind, I’m sure.

DOJ Debunks Fox News Propaganda By Investigating Charleston Shooting As Domestic Terrorism

Fox News has not uttered the words domestic terrorism in relation to the Charleston shooting, but the Department of Justice is investigating the incident as both a hate crime and an act of terrorism.

Sari Horowitz of The Washington Post tweeted:

The words domestic terrorism have not been uttered on Fox News. In fact, Fox has been busy trying to find ways to blame minorities for the Charleston church killings.

Fox’s Martha MacCallum claimed that diversity may be a contributing factor in mass shootings:

MacCallum said that gun violence may be because of diversity. She said, “That may be because of the society we are. We have a lot of different cultures living together. We’re a very unique society, and that’s a wonderful thing, in large part, but that may be a contributing factor

Fox News is also stunned that this incident is being investigated as a hate crime because there are so many other explanations for a white person killing a group of African-Americans due to the color of their skin.

Fox has also tried to turn the killings into an attack on religion, even though the shooter has stated that his motivation was racial.

Roof told police that he “almost didn’t go through with it because everyone was so nice to him.”

Fox News refuses to call the attack an act of terrorism. If this suspect in this attack would have been a Muslim, Fox News and other outlets would have immediately called the shooter a terrorist. Since the killer is a white man in red state South Carolina who killed African-Americans, Fox won’t even call his actions a hate crime.

What Roof did was both a hate crime and an act of terrorism. Reality challenged Fox News, and the Republican Party won’t admit it, but Dylann Roof is a domestic terrorist. The propaganda campaign by Fox and the GOP was dealt a serious blow by Attorney General Loretta Lynch and the Department of Justice.
