Bernie Sanders Terrifies Wall Street By Vowing To Keep Them Out Of His Cabinet
Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie
Sanders (I-VT) dropped a bomb on Wall Street today when during a CNN
interview he vowed that if elected, the fat cats will have no place in
his cabinet.
TAPPER: I know it’s premature to ask you the
type of person you would want to be your vice president, but if you were
to get the nomination and then the presidency, could you give us a
sense of the kinds of individuals you would want serving in your
Cabinet?
SANDERS: Yes.
Unlike many other presidents, they — my Cabinet
would not be dominated by representatives of Wall Street. I think Wall
Street has played a horrendous role in recent years in negatively
impacting our economy and in making the rich richer.
There are a lot of great public servants out there,
great economists who for years have been standing up for the middle
class and the working families of this country who know that it is an
international embarrassment that we have the highest rate of childhood
poverty of any major country on Earth.
And let me tell you something else, Jake, that I
will appoint people to deal with the issue of youth unemployment today,
which we don’t talk about at all. Youth unemployment in this country,
real youth unemployment for African-American kids is over 50 percent,
the Hispanic kids, over 30 percent, and the same for white kids.
And that’s why we have to create a whole
lot of jobs to put our kids back to work, rather than put them in jail
or incarcerate them or build new jails. So, I want a Cabinet that is
focused on rebuilding the crumbling middle class, demanding that the
wealthiest people and large corporations become part of America, and do
not live as an island unto themselves.
Not only does Sanders promise contrast him with his
Democratic opponents, but it is also sends a clear message about the
type of campaign that he is running.
It would be difficult to find a candidate taking a
more grassroots liberal position on the composition of their cabinet
than what Bernie Sanders offered.
If Sanders were to be somehow elected, it would be
Wall Street’s biggest nightmare come true. The problem that he would
have in governing is the same that President Obama currently faces. If
Republicans still control all or any part of Congress after the 2016
election, the Sanders agenda would go nowhere.
Governing exists only in the realm of the
hypothetical for Bernie Sanders right now. Sen. Sanders (I-VT) is taking
bold positions to show the American people what could be.
The point that Bernie Sanders was making was that
government doesn’t have to work the way that it has in the recent past.
Voters don’t have to put up with the sorry excuse for a legislative
branch that has been passed off as governing. The American people can
make a change by thinking big and bold.
Wall
Street may not be afraid of Bernie Sanders winning the White House in
2016, but they should be terrified of the possibilities that he is
revealing.
Republican Cabal Candidates Get Asked Who The Best Living President Is, Proceed To Embarrass Themselves
by Allen Clifton
If you follow politics at all you’re probably well
aware that, for the most part, it’s just a dog and pony show. As
voters, the simple fact is we are completely ridiculous. While both
liberals and wingnuts will complain about the dishonesty of
government, or how we’re sick of politicians not representing the
American people, we still continue to elect those who just tell us what
we want to hear – whether or not what they’re telling us is true. In
fact, honest politicians usually get destroyed by the base of each party
because once in a while they might dare to step outside of their usual
political ideologies on some issues, which enrages the mobs of
wingnut fundamentalists.
That being said, what this has created is a political environment where politicians are so scripted that it’s amazing how often they’re asked very simple questions, yet have no idea how to answer them – because they haven’t been coached how to.
Take for instance a simple question several Republican pretender candidates were asked by CNN: Who do you think is the greatest president alive today?
“Obviously the greatest president of my lifetime is ronny raygun,” said Louisiana's idiot Bobby Jindal.
“I’ll leave that to the people to decide,” Texas' moron Ted Cruz said. “Certainly the greatest president of recent generations was ronny raygun.”
“I was a big fan, a very big fan of ronny raygun,” answered the insane racist Donald Trump.
Meanwhile the nutjob Rick Perry ignored the question (actually a smart move), the unstable Ben Carson said he didn’t know and the lunatic Rick Santorum said “probably a bush.”
Let me start out by pointing out the obvious: raygun died 11 years ago and the question was concerning a living president. Though I love how Cruz is so disingenuous that his answer to “what do you think” prompted a “let the people decide” response - even though that answer made absolutely no sense. Then there’s Trump who cited raygun, even though he’s repeatedly called Bill Clinton his favorite president.
I’ll admit this question is a bit of a trap, but that’s only because the shrub was such a terrible pretender. If you ask a Democrat this question in 6 to 8 years, they’ll be able to proudly say Bill Clinton or Barack Obama, without even the slightest bit of hesitation. But Republicans can’t do that because George H.W. Bush couldn’t even get re-elected and. even though it’s over six years after he left office, no Republican wants to be caught publicly saying the shrub is their favorite living president.
And naturally none of them are going to say Clinton (the husband of their likely 2016 opponent) or Jimmy Carter.
Ironically, Rick Perry showed the most intelligence of all of these candidates by simply ignoring the question completely. Most of the GOP hopefuls are so caught up in their inability to be anything but hacks regurgitating talking points that they tried to answer the question – then proceeded to make fools out of themselves by saying their “favorite living president” is someone who’s been dead for over a decade.
That shows you just how bad shrub’s junta was. These candidates would rather cite someone who’s been dead for over a decade, making themselves look like fools in the process, rather than name the last president to serve from their party. They know that the shrub’s name is so incredibly toxic that it could ruin their entire campaign.
Wisconsin Wingnuts Move One Step Closer To Ending Democracy By Killing Open Records Law
The Republican cabal intends to block the public from discovering what factors
drive the official actions of government, especially the Legislature…
Democrats as well as non-partisan watch dog groups
railed against the measure, noting that it would undermine democracy and
open the doors wider for public officials to engage in corruption. Bill
Lueders, President of the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council
called the action a shocking assault on open government. He decried the legislature’s decision in a statement that read, in part:
The committee’s cowardly action, which passed on a 12-4 party line vote with Republicans in the majority, was part of an omnibus motion stuck into the state budget. It will effectively end the Legislature’s need to comply with the state’s Open Records Law.The changes exempt legislative communications from the law; shield from release all “deliberative materials” created for the purpose of making law or public policy (including opinions, analyses and briefings prepared at public expense); shut down public access to all records created in the process of drafting legislation; and specify that the Legislature can freely exempt any record from disclosure simply by passing a rule or policy. These radical and sweeping changes represent a full-frontal attack on Wisconsin’s history of open government. They are clearly intended to block the public from discovering what factors drive the official actions of government, especially the Legislature, and will inevitably lead to abuse, malfeasance and corruption.
Republicans are up to no good in Wisconsin,
so it makes sense that they want to conduct their legislative
malfeasance under the cover of darkness. However, in a democracy,
elected officials are supposed to be accountable to the people they
represent. The Wisconsin Republican cabal has no interest in being held
accountable for their actions. Voters should remove every last one of
them from office, at the first opportunity.
Editors’ Update: According to The Washington Post on July 4th,
“in a sudden reversal, Wisconsin Idiot Scott Walker and Republican legislative
leaders said they agreed Saturday to remove a part of the proposed state
budget that would have severely rolled back open records laws.”
Thank
you citizens, watch dog groups, and journalists for holding the
Republicans’ feet to the fire and forcing them to backtrack!
