Total Freak Out at Fox & Friends Over Democratic Debate and “Free Stuff”
The Fox and Friends crew loves handouts to the wealthy but spend to
help working class Americans and all they see are freebies to buy
votes…
A lot of people took away many different things from the first
Democratic debate. A lot of people. Unfortunately, only some of them
were paying attention, not including our Republican friends. What
Democrats saw was their presidential hopefuls tell us what they were
for, and what they were against.
For example, let’s save the environment for our children. Let’s close private prisons. Let’s de-militarize the police. Let’s regulate Wall Street so we can avoid a repeat of the GOP’s 2008 “good old days.” Let’s address gun violence. Let’s save Social Security. You know, real issues. Issues Americans care about.
Republicans? You’d think the Democratic debate was advertising for some sort of fire sale.
They freaked out at Fox News’ Fox & Friends yesterday, where Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her friends typically failed to understand a single thing said (not that they wouldn’t have just invented a whole bunch of stuff even if they had).
According to Hasselbeck, Doocey, Kilmeade and their guest Stuart
Varney, the Democratic candidates just promised a whole bunch of free
stuff to people who will vote for them (Who knew educating our children
was a “freebie”?) They even made some flashy graphics to show what tax
payers can be expected to pay for (you know, as opposed to wars, or
giving billions to oil companies, or National Parks to the Koch
Brothers, or sacred Native American land to foreign mining companies, or
a wall to keep Mexicans out…):
Watch courtesy of Media Matters for America:
There is no pretense at Fox & Friends of actual journalism; You have to especially love how “tax the 1 percent” turns, for these clowns, into “topple” the 1 percent. Sorry Varney, nobody at the debate was selling the French Revolution.
The difference between the Democratic debate, where actual policy was discussed, and the Republican, where fake facts and insults were thrown about with the sole purpose of making white people hate everybody else, was that between night and day, and the concept of actually addressing the facts of our daily existence really seems to throw conservatives.
Living in the Fox News reality bubble 24/7, doing the sort of math Republicans do to make themselves feel better, leaves them with no context.
Republicans love spending money. They will throw your tax dollars at their rich friends like there is no tomorrow. The Gods forbid a single penny of it gets spent on making life better for the average American. Then suddenly its freebies. The average American, I am sorry to say, doesn’t know what freebies are, because we’re not oil companies or billionaires or defense contractors.
All we want is roads, and bridges that do not fall down, safe air to breath, food to eat, and water to drink. We want education and opportunities and we want them equally for all. I don’t think that’s too much to ask when you put it against the desire to spend trillions murdering people in other countries, and here, on our own streets.

STEVE DOOCY (HOST): Ok, so with all that free stuff they’re giving away, what’s it going to cost you, the American taxpayer? As opposed to the Republican system of saying “Vote for me and look what I will take away from other people.”
STUART VARNEY: A lot.
DOOCY: Stuart Varney joins us live. You’re right, a lot. How lot? Big lot.
VARNEY: Look, if you go with the Wall Street Journal, they say that Bernie Sanders’ program costs $18 trillion over 10 years. Having listened to Hillary last night, I mean she’s somewhere up there with all the freebies that she’s going to give away. So this is going to cost an arm and a leg. They want to tax the rich, tax Wall Street, tax the big corporations, topple the 1 percent.
BRIAN KILMEADE (HOST): And give us what?
VARNEY: And give us freebies.
ELISABETH HASSELBECK (HOST): A long list. Public college, paid family leave, health care, health care for all children, prescription drugs, expanded Social Security, childhood education, higher minimum wage. It goes on and on. You can’t even fill the screen with it here. I think everyone who’s a good person, has an ounce of mercy in them would say “we’d love to be able to do this.” The problem is, it ends up coming back to bite us if we can’t afford it. Is that right?
VARNEY: Absolutely. If you do all of that, all of the above, all of those freebies that you just mentioned, they’re going to pay for it by taxing the rich. If do you that, if you take all that money off the rich, you end up with a recession, if not a depression.
HASSELBECK: And who does that hurt?
VARNEY: That hurts everybody. There’s far fewer jobs and less tax revenue coming in. So you’ve got an even bigger deficit and even more money to borrow.
KILMEADE: The one person who was targeted or the one group of people that were targeted all night was Wall Street. They talked about the collapse of 2008. Something is telling them that people aren’t over that and they’re probably right. And they also were saying that the middle class are getting screwed by the millionaires and billionaires. In fact, Bernie Sanders is running against billionaires, the 500 in our country, the ones that are really burning Bernie.
VARNEY: Yeah, look, they are giving stuff away. They’re giving stuff away. In fact, I keep going back to this. They’re buying votes. “Vote for me and look what I will give you.”

Missouri wingnut wants to force Planned Parenthood to build ‘Vietnam Wall’ memorial for aborted fetuses
Anti-Choice Agitator Admits Regulating Women’s Sexuality, Not Abortion, Drives Planned Parenthood Attacks
Monica Miller of Citizens for a 'Pro-Life' Society admits what she opposes is "sex for recreation, sex for mere pleasure"…
It is not very often, if ever, that Republicans, or any of their
conservative cohort, tell the truth; it just is not a part of their
character. However, for some mysterious reason a few of them are
abandoning their penchant for mendacity as of late. First it was McCarthy (R-CA) coming clean about the Benghazi
Select Committee illegally using taxpayer money for the rnc’s 2016
presidential campaign against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Then it was the typical lying Mormon Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) being honest
and confessing that he could find no wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood
despite a very thorough and comprehensive investigation. Now,
unbelievably, an anti-choice activist was honest in boasting that the
attacks on Planned Parenthood, and women’s reproductive rights in
general, have absolutely nothing to do with abortion and everything to
do with controlling when women have sexual relations; something
evangelicals and catholics consider a mortal sin unless it is in
servitude to a man or to produce offspring.
When Republicans and their evangelical base were desperate to restrict women’s access to any form of birth control, one of the complaints was that just the idea of a woman, married or not, having “consequence free sex” was an abomination that religious Republicans would not allow or condone. In their minds there has to be a severe, usually an 18 year and nine month, “consequence” for any woman who has sexual relations; even when their “man” demands being serviced” and the woman is ill. Now, a representative of one of the anti-choice cabals planning to harass Planned Parenthood clinics around the nation this weekend has admitted that the crusade against Planned Parenthood is a purely religious assault founded on ending the corrupt sexual ethic of promoting sex not intended for procreation.
The spokeswoman for Citizens for a Anti-Choice Society explained why evangelicals, the personhood movement, anti-choice fascists, catholic bishops, and their Republican facilitators are so intent on destroying Planned Parenthood, and it is not about banning abortion or protecting zygotes and fetuses. Monica Miller is one of this weekend’s ‘harass Planned Parenthood” rally organizers who was honest and angry when she said,
“Planned Parenthood from the top to the bottom is a corrupt organization… corrupt in its view of the sanctity of life and corrupt in its view of human sexuality. I say even if Planned Parenthood didn’t perform one single abortion, just the mere fact that its sexual ethic is corrupted means right there, should be the reason right there, that they should not receive any federal money. The kind of sexual ethic that Planned Parenthood promotes is sex for recreation, sex for mere pleasure.”
Or in the words of more than a couple of patriarchal Republican misogynists; social conservatives demand a prohibition on American women, married or single, having “consequence free sex.” Of course the consequence in this case is producing an offspring annually, or being guilty of, according to the catholic humanae vitae, a mortal sin against god. To make their point and set American women on the religious path or righteous subjugation to a man, anti-choicers cite a woman who should be disgraced, Michelle Duggar of “19 Kids and Counting” fame, as the archetype of a “real christian woman.”
According to pro-lifers, women can only engage in sexual relations as a man’s property like a good submissive sex slave; even within the confines of marriage. Last week Michelle Duggar doled out some ‘righteous’ advice to women on their biblical role according to god:
“So be available, and not just available, but be joyfully available for him. Smile and be willing to say, ‘Yes, sweetie I am here for you, no matter what, even though you may be exhausted and big pregnant and you may not feel like he feels. I’m still here for you and I’m going to meet that need because I know it’s a need for you.”
For Americans that are unfamiliar with the evangelical mindset of a woman’s role in the home and society, instead of taking any time to peruse the christian bible for instructions for being a good submissive wife, Duggar’s ‘advice’ to women fairly sums up exactly what the anti-choice crowd and catholic dogma require of a “good 'christian' woman,” and it is precisely what they demand all American women should aspire to.
Over the past four years Republicans have controlled the House, there have been numerous attacks on women’s reproductive rights and their goal is no different than that of Hobby Lobby’s owners, the United States coven of catholic blowhards (USCCB), personhood movement advocates, and social conservatives driven to destroy Planned Parenthood. It has never been about abortion or even banning contraception; it has always been about controlling women by putting them in the place their patriarchal mindset insists they belong; at home, producing offspring, ‘servicing‘ their man on demand, and emptying his chamber pot.
It is really unreasonable to claim categorically that where a person “falls on Planned Parenthood really reflects where they fall on the fundamental questions of sex.” It is likely there are some Americans that are genuinely sincere in thinking that protecting a single-celled organism or a non-living being fetus is about protecting life. But the religious zealots driving the pro-life movement are solely on a crusade to control women and their sexual activity. Anyone in their right mind understands that providing STD screenings and access to contraception to “make sure that sex is safe and without unintended consequences” accounts for the lion’s share of what Planned Parenthood does and the anti-choice movement knows it as well. The religious right and Catholic bishops are lying when they claim that legal abortion drives their campaign to dominate women, because their real motivation is, at its core, their vision of 'christian' liberty to regulate every American woman’s sexual activity.
At least now they are being honest and admitting that is, and has always been, their goal. Sadly, that idea of a woman existing as a sex slave for a man, any man, is a concept that is rampant among the male population that wants to “take their country back” to Puritanical America and put women in their biblical place. If any American, man or woman, thinks the pro-life zealots will not do their worst according to their misogynistic religion they are sadly mistaken and will likely be the first to be “regulated” by the anti-choice sex police. Americans should prepare for some serious christian Sharia if these evangelical zealouts acquire any more power because this vile anti-choice delusion’s assault on Planned Parenthood is a prelude to an anti-sex crusade and inquisition.

The Wingnut Definition of 'Family Values' Is Bull Shit
Two advocates launch an initiative to push back against nuclear family privilege.
by Kali Holloway
The term “family values,” particularly when used in
election years, is rarely about what really matters to children and
families. Instead the phrase serves to indict those who don’t live in
traditional nuclear American homes—despite the fact that the “Leave it
to Beaver” family model, with a stay-at-home mom and working dad, is no
longer an accurate representation of how families across the country
look.In a recent piece for Salon, family advocates Mia Birdsong and Nicole Rodgers note that at “its peak in the late 1950s, 65 percent of children were living in this type of...family unit. Today, it’s just 22 percent.” Fed up with all the negative representations of non-nuclear families they encountered, the two decided to launch a new initiative called Family Story to change the way we talk about what family means. “[I]t’s past time that we take back the conservative claim to family” the Family Story website states. The organization is focused on countering the idea that there is a single “right” kind of family.
Conservatives constantly bemoan changes in the American family structure as proof of moral failing, and they have long vilified families with working mothers, single parents, LGBT parents, and non-parental caregivers. But these types of families defy conservative stereotypes and outdated stigmas. Family Story, which allows real families to tell their own stories via powerful videos and other media, will push back against these pathologizing narratives.
“I hate that ‘family values’ has become a meaningless term often tossed around by social conservatives, while all around us there are families living truly important values of love, support and connectedness who are left out,” Rodgers says. “I decided it was time to burn the old paradigm down and build something authentic and meaningful in its ashes.”
Family Story’s mission is ambitious yet necessary. The project “will develop new research, share aspirational narratives and highlight the innovative and compelling ideas, practices, and solutions that families and communities have developed. We will offer inspiring models for new American dreams. We will push back against harmful stereotypes and cultural stigma. We will separate social problems like poverty, violence, and poor school performance from family structure, and contest the myth that the nuclear family is the solution to these challenges.”
Rodgers is the founder of Role Reboot, a popular website that takes an incisive look at issues around family, gender, culture and “life off script.” Before founding and becoming co-director of Family Story, she spent years researching data proving that traditional families are not the panacea conservatives claim. Rodgers included some of this data in an article titled “Marriage Is No Safeguard Against Poverty” which was featured in the Washington Post this March.
Earlier this year, Mia Birdsong delivered an astonishing TED Talk that countered damaging, long-held ideas about poor people; it has since been viewed more than 700,000 times. Prio to becoming Family Story co-director, she served as vice president of the Family Independence Initiative, an anti-poverty nonprofit.
“Family Story is not, and will never be, about bashing nuclear families,” Nicole Rodgers says. “Two married parents raising children can be a wonderful thing; it’s just not the best or only thing. This is about building a bigger tent and respecting the dignity and value of a wider range of family arrangements.”
“It’s no surprise that conservatives have such limited, regressive views on what makes a ‘good’ family,” adds Birdsong. “But too few progressive advocates, policymakers and pundits are offering a counter-narrative. There are incredible, beautiful families who have figured out how to make it work outside the nuclear family model. It’s past time we lift up their stories.”

Five years of investigating, untold tax dollars spent, suspending the voting rights of 37,000 people, and Kris Kobach comes back with three whole cases for prosecution. He's currently facing a federal lawsuit over the massive voter purge, one that will no doubt cost the debt-ridden, cash-strapped Sunflower State even more of the precious little income trickling into the state. That's good ol' Republican fiscal conservatism for you!
Kobach told The Associated Press that each complaint deals with alleged double-voting incidents in 2010.
Kobach said the Johnson County cases were filed against a married couple and alleges each also voted in Arkansas. The Sherman County case alleges a man who voted there also voted in Colorado.

CNN Focus Group Says Bernie Sanders Won The First Democratic Debate
A majority of the CNN focus group who watched the first Democratic debate said that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) won the debate over former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton.
The Sanders campaign summed up the focus group reaction as
On CNN, which sponsored the debate, a majority in a post-debate focus group said Sanders was the victor. The Vermont senator was the most popular candidate among a group of young registered Democrats in a Fusion focus group. “Bernie was on fire the whole night,” according to a 24-year-old named Chauncey, who told Fusion he went into the debate undecided. And on Fox News, pollster Frank Luntz talked to Democratic voters in Florida who called him “strong” and “straightforward” and “powerful.”
In terms of speaking time, Sen. Sanders and former Sec. Clinton got the lion’s share of the time with Clinton speaking for 30:26, and Sanders speaking for 26:42.
It was clear that Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders dominated the first Democratic, and both candidates did very well. Picking a winner comes down to preference. Sanders was the candidate with the more forceful argument, but Clinton looked and sounded like an experienced presidential candidate who is ready to be president.
Both candidates had a great debate because the two campaigns had different goals. Clinton’s goals were to ease any unrest about her emails and look presidential, which she did. Sen. Sanders needed to introduce himself to a national Democratic audience and make the argument for a political revolution, which he also did.
With two big personalities like Clinton and Sanders, there was little room for the other candidates on the stage. Martin O’Malley tried to elbow his way in, but at best he is the third candidate in what is a two person race. If Vice President Biden wasn’t sure about running, the stage looked very crowded already, and the first Democratic debate did nothing to ease doubts that there would be no room in the primary for a last-second campaign from Biden.
Bernie Sanders was a clear winner, and this victory should translate into even more funds, and perhaps a bump in the polls. No matter who you think won, the overall message is that Democrats are in good shape heading into 2016.
