NBC Thumped As Americans Demand That The Network Dump Trump From SNL
NBC is facing an intense backlash as more than 18,000 Americans have signed a petition demanding that the network dump Trump as the host of the November 7 episode of Saturday Night Live.
The petition states:
By inviting Trump to host Saturday Night Live, NBC is demonstrating that it doesn’t care about its Latino and pro-immigrant viewers. It is providing a platform for Trump’s insulting attacks on immigrants and calling it entertainment — something we do not find funny.
It is shameful for NBC to allow Trump to host Saturday Night Live, a comedy show, when one of the main policies he has promised would rip apart millions of immigrant and Latino families.
NBC cannot bill hateful rhetoric as comedy, much less entertainment.
Juan Escalante, Digital Campaigns Manager at America’s Voice said, “After early support for the immigrant community, NBC is showing their true colors here. Donald Trump is running one of the most hateful and offensive campaigns in recent history and the fact that the network has decided to give him a megaphone is shameful and disappointing. This is a stark departure from the ‘dignity and respect’ they demanded from Trump in June and a slap in the face for the Latino and immigrant community.”
Added Alejandro Chavez, MoveOn National Field Campaign Organizer, “It is appalling to see NBC and ‘Saturday Night Live’ give essentially free campaign ad time to a candidate intent on spewing anti-immigrant hate. We are proud to stand with our allies at America’s Voice and our Latino and immigrant, documented and undocumented, brother and sister, and demand that NBC does the right thing, again, and dumps Trump — this time for good.”
It is ridiculous that NBC thinks that they can “cut ties” with Trump, and then bring him back for a shameless ratings grab on Saturday Night Live. Allowing a pretender candidate to host the show comes close to the line of violating campaign finance laws. If SNL has given Hillary Clinton a hosting slot, instead of a skit, Republicans would be demanding equal time.
NBC and SNL are going to allow Trump to deliver what amounts to a campaign ad wrapped around some comedy. Trump is running an entire pretender campaign that is centered around racism and hate. Both NBC and SNL are putting a cash grab ahead of doing the right thing.

California Law Prohibits Phony Pregnancy Centers From Lying And Evangelicals Are Furious
The Reproductive Fact ACT that forces faith-based crisis pregnancy
centers (CPCs) to stop lying and stop posing as medical providers.
One
of the things parents teach their children from a very young age is not
to lie and always be truthful. The prohibition on lying is included in
all mainstream religions, but interestingly the only law against lying
is if it is in a judicial proceeding or giving false information to law
enforcement. Maybe it is because there is no law against lying that
Republicans and Fox News lie pathologically and why evangelical 'christians' running phony women’s “crisis pregnancy centers”
base their entire enterprise on mendacity. Now, however, crisis
pregnancy centers in California will be required to follow their bible’s
ninth commandment and stop lying because in the Golden State Democrats
believe women deserve to hear the truth about their reproductive health
choices.Last week, in a signal that California Democrats believe that women warrant “reproductive freedom and dignity,” California Governor Jerry Brown signed a statewide bill, the Reproductive Fact ACT that forces faith-based crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) to stop lying and stop posing as medical providers. Crisis pregnancy centers are religious anti-choice cabals that use the appeal of free pregnancy testing to trap women into suffering through a sermon where they are told blatant lies about abortion and birth control to discourage the use of both. The new law is not any kind of a burden for a legitimate business providing medical services, and primarily requires the churches to post signs alerting women that they are going to be given false information founded on religion, and that cult agitators are not really medical professionals or providers.
The overwhelming majority of CPCs, many funded by taxpayers, are no more “medical facilities” than a snake-handler’s revival tent, nor do they employ any medical staff. For the record, wearing a white lab coat or medical scrubs does not make one a medical professional; just a very bland, lazy, and unimaginative dresser. With the new consumer protection law, the churches posing as licensed medical providers are required to post a sign at the entrance, in plain view, that says:
“This facility is not licensed as a medical facility by the State of California and has no licensed medical provider who provides, or directly supervises the provision of, medical services.”
The CPCs are also now required, by law, to inform every woman entering the ‘cult’ of all their reproductive health options with either an easily visible sign or clearly-stated handout that says:
“The State of California has public programs that provide immediate free or low-cost access to comprehensive family planning services including all FDA-approved methods of contraception, prenatal care, and abortion for eligible women.”
The CPCs are also now required to list phone numbers and locations of county social services offices that are actual medical facilities with actual medical providers licensed by the state to provide the full range of reproductive medical care. The CPCs almost immediately filed suit against California’s Attorney General, Kamala Harris, for some bizarre notion that a law requiring truth in advertising, or prohibiting false advertising, is a gross violation of their freedom of speech and religious liberty to lie.
If the CPCs were not founded on pathological religious lies, nothing whatsoever about these “required disclosures” should bother them, particularly if they were real christians and not on a crusade to frighten women into giving birth when they do not want to. What should be welcomed by the CPCs is that there is nothing in the new law that prohibits them from preaching at women that “consequence free,” non-procreative sexual relations are an abomination and a mortal sin. But that was not enough of a concession for the religious right and they hope their appeal for judicial redress will allow them to continue using religious lies as sound medical advice.
What the CPC system is so terrified of with California’s new “truth in advertising,” or prohibition against “false advertising,” law is that the entire crisis pregnancy center system is founded on the principle that it is necessary and acceptable to lie to women to trick and frighten them into giving birth and in many cases getting pregnant. It is just a typical and standard anti-choice procedure closely related to the mormon delusion of “lying for the lord” which is all well and good to garner more tithing adherents, but it is unacceptable for deceiving women with “medical advice” borne of religious mendacity to make them birthing machines.
Many CPCs tell women the chance of miscarriage is much higher than it actually is hoping that a woman will take a chance rather than abort the unwanted pregnancy. Some lie and tell women how woefully ineffective and dangerous contraception is, or just drastically minimize the chance of getting pregnant if a woman does not use birth control to convince women to stop. The faith-based medical experts also greatly exaggerate the risks of having an abortion, or just do what comes naturally to liars and make up bizarre risks that have never existed or been documented. There is no end to the CPC lies to frighten women into believing that real medical experts intend to maim or kill any woman who believe it is their decision as to when they give birth.
However, the evangelicals at CPCs actually know for a fact, and believe, that not only is “abortion incredibly safe,” it is actually 14 times safer than giving birth. CPCs claim that “abortion is bad and has many adverse side effects. Abortion is associated with preterm birth, emotion (sic) and psychological impact, and spiritual consequences.” As the pro-choice organization NARAL reported in a study of California CPCs, lying is the norm and most important tool that CPCs use to pressure and frighten women into giving birth no matter the consequences to the woman. Lying for religion is what CPCs regard as sound, fact-based medical advice, and now the organization is very, very angry that California passed a law forcing them to be truthful.
In their lawsuits, the CPCs claim that the new truth in advertising law is unconstitutional and argue that “at minimum the consumer protection law unconstitutionally compels the clinics (churches) to speak messages that they have not chosen, with which they do not agree, and that distract, and detract from, the messages they have chosen to speak.” The also threw down the “religious freedom” to lie card and complained that the new “mandated state message is inconsistent with plaintiffs’ religious convictions.” And so there it is in their own words: lying is part and parcel of the CPC system’s “deeply-held religious convictions.”
One of the new law’s sponsors, Attorney General Kamala Harris said that,
“California has been a national leader in promoting and protecting equal access to the full range of women’s reproductive health care options. The Reproductive FACT Act will ensure that women are empowered to make informed and timely decisions about their health and their bodies.”
Harris’ statement was echoed by NARAL state director Amy Everitt:
“California sent a clear message that women deserve information to help them make the best health care decisions for themselves and their families. With this law, California leaders are demonstrating to the rest of the country what it means to truly respect reproductive freedom and the dignity of women.”
One might hope the concept of “truly respecting reproductive freedom and the dignity of women” would be the law of the land, but this is America where evangelical liars and churches posing as medical facilities are just part of what Republicans love to claim make this country exceptional. In California, respecting and protecting women, their reproductive freedom and dignity is not exceptional, it is just what decent human beings do as a matter of course.

There is one presidential candidate who had Americans turning to Google every time he spoke. Bernie Sanders has toppled Trump as the most Googled candidate.

For the non-Hillary Rodham Clinton, non-Bernie Sanders Democrats participating in the first debate on Tuesday night, there was one goal: Get noticed. A look at the candidates being searched on Google during the debate shows that one candidate managed to do that.

Sanders repeatedly saw spikes in Google interest after he spoke. After his intro. After he talked about guns. After basically everything else he said.

What’s more, Sanders actually overpowered the long-term king of Google, Donald Trump. During the debate, Sanders continually attracted more Google interest than Trump.
It makes sense that viewers wouldn’t Google Hillary Clinton. Her name recognition is near 100% nationally. Everyone knows former Sec. Clinton. Much of the country did not know Bernie Sanders. Unless one reads politics online or watches cable news, the odds are Sen. Sanders was a new face for many viewers.
The fact that Sanders was the most googled candidate illustrates that for many Americans he is a political outsider, and his message had people running to find out more about him.
Trump loves to brag about his popularity, but it is a safe bet that he won’t have anything to say about the candidate who he recently described as a communist being more popular than he is.
Sen. Sanders isn’t a blip on the election year radar. He is a powerful populist force who is making millions of Americans take notice of the inequality around them.
California Democrats Show Republicans What Good Government Looks Like
There is one example of a state that leads the nation in economic
growth, job creation, and the ability to govern for all the people.
There is one example of a state that leads the nation in economic growth, job creation, and the ability to govern for all the people. This week, in a seriously stunning editorial by a very wingnut newspaper they readily admit and praise California with its Democratic super-majority and governor as the model the rest of the nation and Republicans in Congress should follow.
There were several notable points the wingnut authors cited about how good efficient government is supposed to work for the people, but it was their remarks that “Democrat Jerry Brown is a centrist;” not a socialist, not a Marxist, not liberal, or not progressive. They admitted that Brown might strike the rest of the country as alarming, “but it is all the more reason for the rest of the country to take note of the momentum here” and learn a valuable lesson that government can, and does work for all the people when Democrats are in charge.
The editorial first noted that Governor Brown signed a nationally-watched compassionate and humane bill making assisted suicide legal in California for the terminally ill. The editors also praised Brown’s signing Democratic legislation that contains the nation’s most strident gender pay equity protections; “protections that immediately raise the bar for the rest of the country to aspire to.” The very next day Governor Brown signed “landmark bills” forcing state contractors to extend employment benefits to transgender employees. And, with help from the Democratic legislature “radically upped the ante” on the use of renewable energy in the Golden State; legislation the Koch brothers’ lobbyists fought hard to derail.
Then, the Governor and Democrats handed the Kochs another righteous smack down by passing and signing legislation banning the nation’s largest public pension system, California’s, from investing in coal as part of “a diversified investment portfolio.” The same day Governor Brown put California’s substantial clout behind the national movement to stop plastic microbead pollution, after earlier enacting legislation phasing out plastic bags. Still not finished, the governor signed a bill regulating medicinal marijuana as well as legislation automatically registering Californians to vote when they obtain or renew a driver’s license.
Add to that a new racial profiling bill that law enforcement despises because it mandates that California police, sheriffs, and highway patrol officers do what law enforcement officials across the country resist as a matter of course; gather hard empirical data to back any claim that they do not stop and detain any California resident based on their race, ethnicity, or “suspected” Middle Eastern religious affiliation.
While Republicans in Congress have made immigration reform a national joke and portrayed immigrants as pariahs, Governor Brown and Democrats have taken steps that the very conservative newspaper’s editorial board labeled “humane and intelligent policies.” Policies to ensure that, “as long as undocumented people are here, they won’t be increasing the ranks of the state’s sick or uneducated, or drive without a license.”
The same editorial board, after mocking Congressional Republicans for saying “I’m not a scientist” to avoid addressing climate change, simply gushed that Democrat Jerry Brown is “inking subnational agreements” all over the globe to reduce greenhouse gases. Despite California’s robust environmental regulations, there is still a lot of work to do to reduce the Golden State’s unhealthy air quality across the state; all while the Kochs are spending tens-of-millions to kill clean air standards.
Finally, as America lags the rest of the developed world in providing mass transit, and California Republicans in Congress vow to never allow it to progress, over nearly three dozen private-sector companies are vying to partner with California to build the nation’s first high-speed rail line. It is a project that will create hundreds-of-thousands of living wage, and permanent, jobs in what will be the greatest Earth-moving project in California’s history. It is also a project the Koch brothers have worked tirelessly to stop because more mass transit options means fewer gas-guzzling vehicles on California’s already over-crowded highways.
Now, if one listens to Republicans, whether in red states or Congress, each and every achievement a Democratic majority legislature with a Democratic governor has accomplished California should be struggling, hemorrhaging jobs, and piling up unsustainable debt. However, that is certainly not the case in California and that is including being in the early stages of a drought of historically epic proportions. The conservative editorial board is spot on about Jerry Brown; he is a centrist. What could be more “centrist” than a governor calling for decent wages, compassionate immigration policy, care for the environment and tax rules that do not give everything to the rich and corporations?
California still has a long way to go to completely dig itself out of a deep dark hole from previous Republican administrations and legislatures, but it is making significant progress simply because the legislature and governor work for all the people. The rest of the nation should take a long, hard look at how a state with a Democratic super-majority and governor is able to govern effectively. As an aside, no American should think for a minute that the Democratic legislature is completely enamored with Governor Brown because he is not a hardline progressive and has governed from the middle. One would hope that Republicans in Congress would take a page out of California’s Democratic legislature and governor’s steady hand in governing for all the people, but that would require them actually wanting to govern for the people; something that is never going to happen.

rating. It’s clear that the American people are happy to see Boehner go.According to Gallup:
Americans’ opinions of Boehner are still negative, but they have improved since he announced last month that he would resign his position. Currently, 31% of Americans have a favorable opinion of Boehner, up from 23% in August. This is his best reading since April 2014.

Interestingly, Republicans’ views of Boehner are unchanged since Gallup’s last measurement in August, while independents and Democrats now view him more favorably. This may be the result of recent attention paid to lunatic fringe wingnut Republicans’ role in forcing Boehner to step down, perhaps leading some independents and Democrats to view him as more of an ally. Nevertheless, Democrats and independents still view him more negatively than Republicans do.
Boehner is experiencing a wave of popularity since announcing his retirement. There is going to be very little nostalgia associated with the Boehner era. Boehner was viewed as part of the problem, and we’ll see how big of a part of the problem he was after he is gone, and new Speaker takes over.
The Gallup poll reveals that the American people aren’t going to miss Boehner and that Republicans would love to have the kind of poll numbers that President Obama has. Boehner is at his second highest point of popularity, and President Obama remains 15+ points more popular than the top Republican.
Boehner’s lack of popularity is a symptom of larger contempt and distaste that the American people have for the Republican cabal as a whole.

They freaked out at Fox News’ Fox & Friends yesterday, where Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her friends typically failed to understand a single thing said (not that they wouldn’t have just invented a whole bunch of stuff even if they had).
STEVE DOOCY (HOST): Ok, so with all that free stuff they’re giving away, what’s it going to cost you, the American taxpayer?As opposed to the Republican system of saying “Vote for me and look what I will take away from other people.”
STUART VARNEY: A lot.
DOOCY: Stuart Varney joins us live. You’re right, a lot. How lot? Big lot.
VARNEY: Look, if you go with the Wall Street Journal, they say that Bernie Sanders’ program costs $18 trillion over 10 years. Having listened to Hillary last night, I mean she’s somewhere up there with all the freebies that she’s going to give away. So this is going to cost an arm and a leg. They want to tax the rich, tax Wall Street, tax the big corporations, topple the 1 percent.
BRIAN KILMEADE (HOST): And give us what?
VARNEY: And give us freebies.
ELISABETH HASSELBECK (HOST): A long list. Public college, paid family leave, health care, health care for all children, prescription drugs, expanded Social Security, childhood education, higher minimum wage. It goes on and on. You can’t even fill the screen with it here. I think everyone who’s a good person, has an ounce of mercy in them would say “we’d love to be able to do this.” The problem is, it ends up coming back to bite us if we can’t afford it. Is that right?
VARNEY: Absolutely. If you do all of that, all of the above, all of those freebies that you just mentioned, they’re going to pay for it by taxing the rich. If do you that, if you take all that money off the rich, you end up with a recession, if not a depression.
HASSELBECK: And who does that hurt?
VARNEY: That hurts everybody. There’s far fewer jobs and less tax revenue coming in. So you’ve got an even bigger deficit and even more money to borrow.
KILMEADE: The one person who was targeted or the one group of people that were targeted all night was Wall Street. They talked about the collapse of 2008. Something is telling them that people aren’t over that and they’re probably right. And they also were saying that the middle class are getting screwed by the millionaires and billionaires. In fact, Bernie Sanders is running against billionaires, the 500 in our country, the ones that are really burning Bernie.
VARNEY: Yeah, look, they are giving stuff away. They’re giving stuff away. In fact, I keep going back to this. They’re buying votes. “Vote for me and look what I will give you.”
There is no pretense at Fox & Friends of actual journalism; You have to especially love how “tax the 1 percent” turns, for these clowns, into “topple” the 1 percent. Sorry Varney, nobody at the debate was selling the French Revolution.
The difference between the Democratic debate, where actual policy was discussed, and the Republican, where fake facts and insults were thrown about with the sole purpose of making white people hate everybody else, was that between night and day, and the concept of actually addressing the facts of our daily existence really seems to throw conservatives.
Living in the Fox News reality bubble 24/7, doing the sort of math Republicans do to make themselves feel better, leaves them with no context.
Republicans love spending money. They will throw your tax dollars at their rich friends like there is no tomorrow. The Gods forbid a single penny of it gets spent on making life better for the average American. Then suddenly its freebies. The average American, I am sorry to say, doesn’t know what freebies are, because we’re not oil companies or billionaires or defense contractors.
All we want is roads, and bridges that do not fall down, safe air to breath, food to eat, and water to drink. We want education and opportunities and we want them equally for all. I don’t think that’s too much to ask when you put it against the desire to spend trillions murdering people in other countries, and here, on our own streets.

When Republicans and their evangelical base were desperate to restrict women’s access to any form of birth control, one of the complaints was that just the idea of a woman, married or not, having “consequence free sex” was an abomination that religious Republicans would not allow or condone. In their minds there has to be a severe, usually an 18 year and nine month, “consequence” for any woman who has sexual relations; even when their “man” demands being serviced” and the woman is ill. Now, a representative of one of the anti-choice cabals planning to harass Planned Parenthood clinics around the nation this weekend has admitted that the crusade against Planned Parenthood is a purely religious assault founded on ending the corrupt sexual ethic of promoting sex not intended for procreation.
The spokeswoman for Citizens for a Anti-Choice Society explained why evangelicals, the personhood movement, anti-choice fascists, catholic bishops, and their Republican facilitators are so intent on destroying Planned Parenthood, and it is not about banning abortion or protecting zygotes and fetuses. Monica Miller is one of this weekend’s ‘harass Planned Parenthood” rally organizers who was honest and angry when she said,
“Planned Parenthood from the top to the bottom is a corrupt organization… corrupt in its view of the sanctity of life and corrupt in its view of human sexuality. I say even if Planned Parenthood didn’t perform one single abortion, just the mere fact that its sexual ethic is corrupted means right there, should be the reason right there, that they should not receive any federal money. The kind of sexual ethic that Planned Parenthood promotes is sex for recreation, sex for mere pleasure.”
Or in the words of more than a couple of patriarchal Republican misogynists; social conservatives demand a prohibition on American women, married or single, having “consequence free sex.” Of course the consequence in this case is producing an offspring annually, or being guilty of, according to the catholic humanae vitae, a mortal sin against god. To make their point and set American women on the religious path or righteous subjugation to a man, anti-choicers cite a woman who should be disgraced, Michelle Duggar of “19 Kids and Counting” fame, as the archetype of a “real christian woman.”
According to pro-lifers, women can only engage in sexual relations as a man’s property like a good submissive sex slave; even within the confines of marriage. Last week Michelle Duggar doled out some ‘righteous’ advice to women on their biblical role according to god:
“So be available, and not just available, but be joyfully available for him. Smile and be willing to say, ‘Yes, sweetie I am here for you, no matter what, even though you may be exhausted and big pregnant and you may not feel like he feels. I’m still here for you and I’m going to meet that need because I know it’s a need for you.”
For Americans that are unfamiliar with the evangelical mindset of a woman’s role in the home and society, instead of taking any time to peruse the christian bible for instructions for being a good submissive wife, Duggar’s ‘advice’ to women fairly sums up exactly what the anti-choice crowd and catholic dogma require of a “good 'christian' woman,” and it is precisely what they demand all American women should aspire to.
Over the past four years Republicans have controlled the House, there have been numerous attacks on women’s reproductive rights and their goal is no different than that of Hobby Lobby’s owners, the United States coven of catholic blowhards (USCCB), personhood movement advocates, and social conservatives driven to destroy Planned Parenthood. It has never been about abortion or even banning contraception; it has always been about controlling women by putting them in the place their patriarchal mindset insists they belong; at home, producing offspring, ‘servicing‘ their man on demand, and emptying his chamber pot.
It is really unreasonable to claim categorically that where a person “falls on Planned Parenthood really reflects where they fall on the fundamental questions of sex.” It is likely there are some Americans that are genuinely sincere in thinking that protecting a single-celled organism or a non-living being fetus is about protecting life. But the religious zealots driving the pro-life movement are solely on a crusade to control women and their sexual activity. Anyone in their right mind understands that providing STD screenings and access to contraception to “make sure that sex is safe and without unintended consequences” accounts for the lion’s share of what Planned Parenthood does and the anti-choice movement knows it as well. The religious right and Catholic bishops are lying when they claim that legal abortion drives their campaign to dominate women, because their real motivation is, at its core, their vision of 'christian' liberty to regulate every American woman’s sexual activity.
At least now they are being honest and admitting that is, and has always been, their goal. Sadly, that idea of a woman existing as a sex slave for a man, any man, is a concept that is rampant among the male population that wants to “take their country back” to Puritanical America and put women in their biblical place. If any American, man or woman, thinks the pro-life zealots will not do their worst according to their misogynistic religion they are sadly mistaken and will likely be the first to be “regulated” by the anti-choice sex police. Americans should prepare for some serious christian Sharia if these evangelical zealouts acquire any more power because this vile anti-choice delusion’s assault on Planned Parenthood is a prelude to an anti-sex crusade and inquisition.
