Bernie Sanders Now Has More Donors At This Point Than Any Other Candidate In History
Sanders said, “When we began this campaign six months ago, I’d say that 80 percent of the American people did not know who Bernie Sanders was, what I stood for. First polls that I saw had us at three percent or five percent. We have come a very, very long way. We have hundreds of thousands of volunteers in fifty states in this country. We have received more individual contributions, 750,000, than any candidate in American history at this point in the campaign.”
The number of donors is impressive by any standard, but Sen. Sanders also addressed the question that will make or break his campaign. Sanders discussed how he planned to attract the support of African-American Democrats.
Bernie Sanders is very competitive with Hillary Clinton in states where white voters dominate the primary/caucus electorate (Iowa and New Hampshire). Sen. Sanders is losing badly in the states that are more representative of the makeup of the Democratic Party as a whole. All polls show Sen. Sanders losing by large margins in South Carolina and Nevada, but for Bernie Sanders this campaign is about something bigger than winning the Democratic nomination.
To understand why it is important that Sanders has inspired over 750,000 people to donate to his campaign, one must view the Sanders campaign as a political movement. The Bernie Sanders movement isn’t going to end if he does not win the Democratic nomination. Even if he loses the Democratic primary, Bernie Sanders will return to Washington as one of the most powerful leaders in the country.
No other senator can claim to have a movement of millions of people behind them. Bernie Sanders is building a political movement that could potentially change a nation. That is why the 750,000+ donors matter, and why to understand the success of Bernie Sanders one must look beyond the polls and towards the future beyond the 2016 election.
Bernie Sanders Blows Up The Koch Publicity Tour With A Ten Megaton Truth Bomb
Transcript via MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes:
HAYES: That’s Charles Koch expressing his commitment to ending corporate welfare. Do you buy that, Senator?
SANDERS: Making life for people better – no doubt. Look, in 1980, Chris – and we don’t talk about this enough – David Koch ran for vice president of the United States on the libertarian party’s ticket. What his agenda was was not to cut Social Security or Medicare, but to end Social Security, end Medicare, end Medicaid, end the EPA, end the concept of the Environmental Protection Agency. Basically, he wanted to eliminate virtually every program developed since FDR designed to help working people end the middle class. That is their agenda. And to tell you the truth, you know, 30 years have come and gone. I don’t think that agenda has changed at all. What these guys are doing is spending unbelievable sums of money, from $900 million on this campaign cycle, to support right-wing candidates for going to war. Big-time against working families and the middle class. No, I do not think the Koch brothers want to make life better for ordinary people.
The idea that the Koch brothers are out to help ordinary people is laughable to anyone who follows politics, but the mainstream press is very willing to kiss the Koch ring and give the brothers a platform to redefine themselves as altruistic patriots who are looking out for the little guy.
Sen. Bernie Sanders was one of the first leaders on the left to speak out against the Koch agenda, and he absolutely destroyed the myth of the benevolent brothers Koch with a little bit of recent history. The Koch brothers want the government to have no role in anything domestic that does not involve aiding the wealthy and corporations. The Kochs’ idea of helping people involves taking away Social Security, Medicare, government regulations that protect people from environmental hazards, eliminating rules that help to keep our and water clean and safe, tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, and rolling back every bit of progress that has been made for working Americans since the New Deal.
The Koch brothers have money, but Bernie Sanders has a movement of millions of Americans behind him.
The Koch brothers launched their publicity tour because they are losing. Sen. Sanders is beating the billionaires with the facts, and the senator from Vermont used the truth to stop the Koch publicity machine dead in its tracks.
Nancy Pelosi Picks 6 Pro-Choice Fighters For Planned Parenthood Investigative Panel
Pelosi and the Democrats came out swinging on Wednesday, by referring to the panel derisively as “the Select Committee to Attack Women’s Health”. Even without that verbal barb, Democrats made it clear they were ready for battle, as Pelosi’s list of names includes six of the strongest pro-choice advocates in the U.S. House.
Pelosi chose Illinois Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky to serve as the ranking Democrat on the committee. Schakowsky will be joined by four other Democratic women–Jackie Speier (CA), Dianna DeGette (CO), Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ) and Suzan DelBene (WA). New York Congressman Jerrold Nadler will join the five Democratic women as the lone Democratic male representative on the panel.
In announcing her appointees, Pelosi stated:
I am proud to name six strong champions of women, families and facts to stand up against the latest Republican assault on women’s health. Hard-working families deserve better than a taxpayer-funded Republican Select Committee fixated on dismantling women’s health.Schakowksy made it clear she would fight for women’s reproductive rights, announcing:
I can assure you, my plan is to be on the offensive. . . I think the Republicans will actually regret having started this witch hunt.Rep. Jackie Speier sounded a similarly combative tone, stating:
On their first day in power as a majority in 2011, Republicans introduced H.R. 1, a bill to defund Planned Parenthood. They have introduced bills attacking women’s health with a vengeance ever since, and earlier this year they threatened to shut down the government unless we de-fund Planned Parenthood…The 6 Democrats Nancy Pelosi chose to serve on the committee are some of the strongest advocates for women’s health in the House. They will fight to uphold the truth, and Republicans may indeed end up regretting ever picking this battle to begin with.
Now they’ve set up a Select Committee with no apparent purpose but to spend millions of taxpayer dollars demonizing Planned Parenthood. We have to make sure the public gets the truth: That 2.7 million women and men a year use Planned Parenthood for health services like cancer screenings, pap smears, and STD tests, and those services save lives.
Rest assured I will fight to make sure the needs of millions of people who use Planned Parenthood and are often ignored in this ideological debate — people whose lives will be deeply affected by the outcome — will be heard.

Huckabee Wants to Thank SCOTUS for Their “Thoughts and Opinions” And Ignore Them
Huckabee says he gets to decide what is constitutional or not,
not the Supreme Court, which is given that job by the Constitution…
He’s got a Republican Congress that has never tried to slow him down on his unconstitutional actions. They don’t try to slow down the judicial branch when it goes into judicial overreach and practices what Thomas Jefferson would have called judicial tyranny. They’ve ignored the typical checks and balances that are the constitutional duties of the other branches of government. So I think Obama’s going to just go ahead and do whatever he thinks he can get away with, and up until now he’s gotten away with pretty much anything he wanted to do.So Huckabee is for people who violate the Constitution and then against them, and in Iowa last week he showed he is actually still for them: himself this time. Asked about sodomy laws, which you might recall were declared unconstitutional in Lawrence v. Texas (2003) by the Supreme Court (which Article III of the Constitution says decides such things), a questioner said:
And I hold the Republican Congress responsible and accountable. It’s time for them to step up, and if they have to cut the funding out of the White House and simply not appropriate funds for him to function, they have the power of the purse, they simply need to start exercising it.
(It’s been pointed out by Miranda Blue at Right Wing Watch that “The questioner seems to have been confused on a number of levels: Iowa’s sodomy law was repealed by a statute, while the state’s Supreme Court allowed gay couples to marry.”)
In response, Huckabee declared,
“Well, I think, let’s be very clear, the court cannot make law.”
Of course, the court does not make the law. They interpret it. And the Supreme Court gets to say if it’s constitutional or not.
Yet Huckabee thinks the next president should just unconstitutionally ignore the constitutionally established Supreme Court for carrying out its constitutionally mandated activities, all because he doesn’t like it, all the white pretending to be a champion of the Constitution:
“It means that the next president ought to have the courage to say, ‘We appreciate the court decision, but we ignore it because it’s not constitutional, there’s nothing in the Constitution that gives the federal government the authority to dictate or mandate what the definition of marriage is, and until the elected representatives have decided on this, there’s nothing for us to follow other than, ‘Thank you for your thoughts and opinions.'”
“Thank you for your thoughts and opinions.”
Huckabee just wants to make the law up as he goes. Laws apply or not at need. The sheer hypocrisy of saying he can decide what is constitutional – something going around in Republican circles these days – when the Supreme Court, which is given that job IN the Constitution cannot, defies belief.
And that’s not how this works. It’s not how any of this works.
It sells in Iowa, sure. Every bad idea sells in Iowa, and Republicans can be as stupid as they want there with complete impunity, but this is the most egregious abuse of logic possible. In advancing these preposterous claims, Huckabee once again shows his complete unsuitability for the highest office in the land.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Donates Millions To Planned Parenthood And The Republican Cabal Is Pissed
Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been quietly funneling
substantial amounts of money into a donor based community foundation
called Silicon Valley Community Foundation located in Mountain View,
California. The donations he and his wife Priscilla made to the
organization in 2012 and 2013 have been significant. In 2012, the Zuckerbergs bequeathed the group with 19 million shares of
Facebook stock. The following year, they granted the same foundation
another 18 million shares of stock. The most recent donation was worth
nearly one billion dollars. Among the groups supported by Silicon Valley
Community Foundation is Planned Parenthood.
For its part, Planned Parenthood has been at the center of a firestorm of criticism after video was leaked of the group discussing the transfer of baby tissue from abortions. While it has likely been known that the fetal tissue and flesh has been harvested for a variety of scientific purposes, the public has reacted strongly against the candor with which Planned Parenthood employees discuss the matter. This has led the Republican cabal to seek to withdraw funding from the group.
That said, Planned Parenthood says that only 3% of its activities involve abortions. In actuality, they perform other preventative procedures such as mammograms and distributing birth control devices to women. Abortion rights supporters point out to these activities to minimize the sting of the Planned Parenthood fetal tissue videos. As for the Zuckerbergs, they are actually going to have a baby. The left views Mark Zuckerberg as a hero for championing illegal immigration, Planned Parenthood, and part-time work for corporate America.

Obama Refuses TransCanada Request to Suspend Keystone XL Pipeline Approval
TransCanada claims they need more time to work with American
officials but the real reason is to avoid a losing battle with President
Obama…
The foreign corporation that, along with Republicans, has been behind the gargantuan push to construct the ridiculously dangerous Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the U.S Gulf Coast has just begged the U.S. State Department to suspend its review of the environmentally disastrous project. That’s right, after convincing Republicans to attempt an unconstitutional legislative maneuver to seize Executive Branch authority for big oil profits, TransCanada wants America to suspend the permitting process. One wonders why no Republicans are screaming bloody murder.
The foreign corporation, TransCanada, offered up a bovine excrement excuse for the suspension request and claimed that after seven years and a monumental crusade, “a suspension would be appropriate while we work with Nebraska authorities for approval of its preferred route through the state.” Of all the reasons TransCanada could have proffered for asking for a suspension of a project they have pushed mercilessly, claiming they need more time to “work with” any American officials for their “preferred route” across America is sheer nonsense and a seriously dirty filthy lie.
It is more likely that the real overriding reason is to avoid the Obama Administration’s “widely expected” rejection of the permit to build Keystone XL; regardless of who wants it. It is also likely that an underlying factor is that the current historically low oil prices have “undercut the financial logic” of TransCanada taking the project forward. The Koch brothers or oil acolytes in the Republican movement have not weighed in on the announcement and it seems curious that after securing over a million or so acres of tar sands in and around Alberta, the impatient Koch brothers are not outraged the company now wants to put the project on hold.
TransCanada is not the only combatant in this war on the environment and the climate. The Koch brothers and Republicans cannot countenance losing another battle with President Obama or the environmental movement for that matter, and the oil industry can avoid “the pre-election rejection by President Obama that many are predicting,” and hope that by putting the project in limbo they can avoid losing outright; particularly after a costly and multi-year campaign just to procure a permit to build the pipeline. Maybe they even believe that in a year or so all the nasty environmental activists and land owners opposed to the project will have vanished, or that the EPA and preponderance of climate scientists will have an epiphany that developing tar sands will not mean “game over for the Earth’s climate.”
If the pipeline is, as Republicans have claimed for five straight years, a job creating bonanza like America has never seen, necessary to provide Americans with cheap gas, or a critical part of a robust economic recovery; why are they not declaring war on Canada for asking America to suspend the permit approval process? This request for a suspension is all the proof any American needed that Republicans, Canada’s former prime minister, TransCanada, and particularly former-speaker of the house Boehner have been lying through their teeth all along about the benefits of building the pipeline. What has been missing since TransCanada announced they want a respite from trying to push a nasty project their citizens will not allow in Canada, is outrage from Republicans or their masters the Koch brothers who stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars annually without the pipeline. One would expect Republicans and the Koch brothers to be screaming foul from every television in America that TransCanada is destroying a million prospective jobs, thwarting 45-cents a gallon gasoline, and sending the economy into a deep dark depression; all because their precious Canadian corporation is delaying its plan to despoil America’s Heartland as well as the entire Earth’s climate.
Although the President could have summarily rejected TransCanada’s permit application long before now, he waited for all the facts to come in that indeed, the pipeline fails his climate test. This is something TransCanada is well aware of by now. They also likely are aware that based on his climate agenda and particularly his recent ban on drilling in the Arctic, it is more likely than not the President will reject Keystone XL “once and for all.” These are just delaying tactics on the part of a foreign corporation in league with the Koch brothers, Boehner, and every oil-dependent Republican in Congress. They are all counting on the next administration to toe the fossil fuel line, obey the Koch brothers, and do big oil’s bidding because it has finally dawned on them that this President puts the people’s welfare and the Earth’s climate first.
Over the past two years, in particular, President Obama has made the environment and the climate a primary concern of his Administration and he actually made it “clear that Keystone XL can’t be in our national interest.” It is not a massive job creator and according to the Environmental Protection agency it will “significantly increase carbon pollution and exacerbate global climate change immeasurably.”
The foreign corporation TransCanada, Republicans, and the Koch brothers are resorting to what environmentalists are rightly calling “a desperate delay tactic to prevent President Obama from following through on his pledge.” It is glaringly apparent that the axis of mendacity, the Kochs, Republicans, and TransCanada, are terrified of this President and now likely comprehend that challenging his resolve or expecting him to concede to big oil is a very stupid move. They are hoping the next president is going to do what President Obama has already demonstrated he will never do; choose oil industry profits over the health, safety, and welfare of current and future generations of human beings the world over. As if to punctuate that point, the White House has announced that despite TransCanada’s request, the President will not “yield to big oil” to delay his decision on Keystone XL, and that he will make the final decision before he leaves office.
