Dole Blasts Cruz, Praises ‘Good Man’ President Obama
Democratic Dreams Come True As Republicans Discuss Rigging Their Own Convention To Stop Trump
In a dream come true for Democrats, Republicans are geared up for a
fight on the convention floor and dreaming up strategies to deny Trump their nomination if he wins the primaries.
The Washington Post reported:
Republican officials and leading figures in the party’s establishment are now preparing for the possibility of a brokered convention as Trump continues sit atop the polls and the presidential race.
More than 20 of them convened Monday for a dinner held by Republican National Coven Chairwimp Reince Priebus, where the prospect of Trump nearing next year’s nominating convention in Cleveland with a significant number of delegates dominated the discussion, according to five people familiar with the meeting.
Considering that scenario as Priebus and McConnell (R-Ky.) listened, several longtime power brokers argued that if the controversial billionaire storms through the primaries, the cabal’s establishment must lay the groundwork for a floor fight, in which the wingnuts’ 'mainstream' wing could coalesce around an alternative, the people said.
Because of the sensitivity of the topic — and wary of saying
something that, if leaked, would provoke Trump to bolt the cabal and
mount an independent bid — Priebus and McConnell were mostly quiet
during the back and forth. They did not signal support for an overt
anti-Trump effort.
There is nothing in the RNC’s convention rules about delegates being committed to primary winners. The RNC set up the rules so that if a Trump would storm through the primaries, he could be stopped dead at the convention.
Republicans are setting up the sort of chaos that has been seen at a presidential nominating convention in decades. The years of fighting within the Republican cabal could all blow up on the convention floor in Cleveland.
Republican power brokers aren’t going to sit back and let Trump win their nomination. They are going to fight Trump every step of the way, even if that means rigging the convention to deny him the nomination.
This is turning out to be a dream come true for Democrats. A deeply divided Republican cabal is looking less and less able to settle on a nominee while Democrats remain unified and ready for November. If Republicans give Trump the nomination, they will lose in November. If Republicans rig the nominating process against Trump, the billionaire will run third party and hand the White House to Democrats.
It isn’t a surprise that Republicans would meet to try to rig their own convention, but as long as Trump is around, the wingnuts are sure to lose.

Obama Signs Bill Overthrowing The Shrub’s Disastrous No Child Left Behind
President Obama called the bill a Christmas miracle, a real bipartisan bill that he got to sign.
The President praised the bipartisanship behind this bill, “I just want to point out that it’s not as if there weren’t some significant ideological differences on some of these issues. No there were, but I really think this is a good example of how bipartisanship can work. People did not agree on everything at the outset, but they were willing to listen to each other in a civil and constructive way and to work through these issues, compromise when necessary, while still keeping their eye on the ball.”
According to a White House fact sheet the bill that President Obama signed will:
· Ensure states set high standards so that children graduate high school ready for college and career.
· Empower state and local decision-makers to develop their own strong systems for school improvement based upon evidence, rather than imposing cookie-cutter federal solutions like No Child Left Behind (NCLB) did.
· Preserve annual assessments and reduce the often onerous burden of unnecessary and ineffective testing on students and teachers, making sure that standardized tests don’t crowd out teaching and learning, without sacrificing clear, annual information parents and educators need to make sure our children are learning.
· Provide more children access to high-quality preschool, giving them the chance to get a strong start to their education.
· Establish new resources to test promising practices and replicate proven strategies that will drive opportunity and better outcomes for America’s students.
One of the outcomes of the new law is expected to be a reduction in the amount of standardized testing that today’s students are subjected to.
The Every Student Succeeds Act should be a major improvement on No Child Left Behind. A major subtext of the Obama years has been this president cleaning up the messes left behind by the shrub. The shrub legacy of failure has been largely dismantled.
The shrub managed to sign an education reform bill that both increased federal involvement in local education and managed to leave tons of children behind by forcing teachers to teach to standardized tests instead of helping students grow and learn.
Another “achievement” of one of the worst pretenders in history has been sent to the dustbin as it seems that the one thing that Republicans and Democrats can agree on is the need to get rid of No Child Left Behind.

English Petition to Ban Trump Now Stands at 370,000 and Counting
The carefully crafted and nurtured Trump brand has been re-branded as
something nobody wants overnight by Trump's radicalization…
Yes. They will be debating the presence of Trump in Parliament. I bet that isn’t an outcome The Dumbass expected when he announced his candidacy.
A counter-petition begun Wednesday has garnered only 9,000 signatures, according to the BBC this morning.
I bet he also didn’t expect these other developments:
- Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has stripped Trump of his status as a business ambassador for Scotland.
- Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University has revoked Trump’s honorary degree, which he received in 2010 in recognition of his achievements as an entrepreneur and businessman.
- One of the Middle East’s largest retail chains, Lifestyle, has withdrawn Trump products from its shelves following his comments.
Which shows the Scots are at least twice as civilized as Republicans, 65 percent of whom approve of Trump’s fascism.
Robert Gordon University said, in revoking Trump’s honorary degree,
“We respectfully request that Robert Gordon University strips Trump of the honorary degree it bestowed on him with immediate effect. Why is this important? We feel that Trump’s unrepentant, persistent verbal attacks on various groups of people based on nationality, religion, race and physical abilities are a huge detriment to RGU.”
Oh dear.
And his retail prospects don’t look so good either, as the move by Lifestyle will see his products – like a “table lamp in antique brass with crystal drops” and a decorative box with a “brilliant plume of a peacock…redecorated in gold finish for an exclusive look” – removed from 190 stores in the Middle East, Pakistan, and even Africa.
CEO Sachin Mundhwa told Reuters,
“In light of the recent statements made by the presidential candidate in the U.S. media, we have suspended sale of all products from the Trump Home décor range.”
Oh dear, oh dear.
The Price of Trump’s Ego
These are forms of backlash against Trump’s radicalism – not to put too fine a point upon it, his fascism. This is a sweet irony for his detractors, as he is responsible for a rather more frightening backlash against Muslims in the United States.
ThinkProgress has put together an interactive map to show just how extensive this backlash is (yes, the same backlash Fox News can’t see):
His 20-foot high vanity name on the building he doesn’t actually own has become a beacon for terrorists. Make America great again? How about we settle for you not getting us killed?
The carefully crafted and nurtured Trump brand has been re-branded as something nobody wants overnight by Trump’s radicalization, and you have to wonder if he will ever recover from the things he has said over the past months. He can claim momentum in the Republican pretender race, but there is a growing momentum in reaction to him as well, and that is one he can control only by toning down his rhetoric, and that seems unlikely.
The hilarious thing is, Trump thinks he should have been Time Magazine’s Person of the Year:
Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
He tweeted his lament that instead of picking the person who plans to ruin America, Time picked the “person who is ruining Germany.”Thank you @oreillyfactor for your wonderful editorial as to why I should have been @TIME Magazine's Person of the Year. You should run Time!
Sure, he’s popular in South Carolina, but it’s hard to make that sound like an accomplishment; they were the first to secede from the Union, after all. Maybe they can secede again and make him dictator, like Il Duce. We can call him Il Trumpo.
Trump touts his business acumen, but as should be readily apparent, that acumen is nowhere to be found today. Khalaf al-Habtoor, a former Trump business partner in Dubai told Reuters,
“He is really creating war. He’s creating hatred between Muslims and christians. Muslims have invested hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars [in America], creating jobs for Americans. They can go invest it somewhere else.”
Take that, Mr. Tough Guy. Take that.
Trump’s Extremist Bigotry Against Muslims Is Now The Republican Moderate Position
Maybe now it is time for sane Americans to stop laughing or shaking
their heads in disgust at Trump and follow President Obama and other
Democrats in addressing…
For many Americans, the idea of a television reality-show and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) celebrity like Trump as a viable Republican pretender candidate was beyond the absurd. However absurd Trump’s run for the wingnut nomination may seem, the reality is that whether he ultimately succeeds in gaining the nomination or not, he has thrown open Overton’s window and made abject bigotry as political discourse very popular among conservatives and mainstream media and an actual threat to all Americans.
While the rest of the world, and a few Americans, are dumbfounded by Trump’s success and conclude that he is an “only in America caricature” kind a fool, it is time to stop being shocked, or amused, and start fighting back. If Trump et al are not shut down sooner than later, decent Americans will have to gird themselves for some seriously dangerous hate driven by Trump’s deliberately divisive politics that will not stop at any one demographic.
Regardless how extreme, how bigoted, and how racist Trump’s rhetoric, he is still the wingnut front-runner. If the Iowa caucus were held today, Trump would cruise to victory over less openly-bigoted Republicans by a whopping 13 points. Maybe now it is time for sane Americans to stop laughing or shaking their heads in disgust at Trump and follow President Obama and other Democrats in addressing Trump’s open hostility against any non-white and non-'christian' for exactly what it is; patently un-American, hate-filled bigotry and genuinely inhumane insanity.
Of course there has always been bigotry and hate speech in America; it is part and parcel of America’s world-renowned ignorance and arrogance problem. However, it has never been as widely-accepted as reasonable political discourse or moderate campaign rhetoric; that is the real, present, and future danger of Trump and the other Republicans seeking the White House making extreme bigotry an acceptable and popular position.
If being a decent American citizen is not reason enough to assail Trump, Fox News, and other wingnuts’ blatant anti-Muslim bigotry, then self-preservation and national security should. It is true there were barbarian hate-mongers in America before Trump, but they never proposed registering people as undesirables according to their faith, imprisoning them, spying on their places of worship, or banning them from daring to enter white 'christian' America.
It is also frightening that a reality television hack single-handedly made religious bigotry in a land with freedom of religion an acceptable, and madly popular, aspect of the nation’s political debate and discourse. Over the past six months, what was once considered beyond the pale, blatant anti-Muslim prejudice, not only suddenly seems “less” extreme to many Americans, it is actually regarded as palatable and prescient.
By proposing seriously foul anti-Muslim policies as the center-piece of his campaign, Trump is doing exactly what the Islamic State (ISIS, ISIL) predicted was crucial to their victory. Remember, just last February the official Islamic State magazine’s editorial was a clarion call to Republicans to “fuel a sense among Muslims that they are unwanted, rejected, and hated” to drive them into the open arms of ISIL’s “global jihad.” Trump’s actions and speech are providing ISIL with proof that they control Republicans and are winning because Trump and company’s anti-Muslim rhetoric and fascist proposals are exactly what ISIL predicted “western nations” would do.
If it were just Trump and a few Republicans openly preaching hate against innocent American Muslims it would be horrific enough. But the real source of concern is that no matter how extreme and hateful Trump’s anti-Muslim, or anti-anyone, bigotry becomes it garners wild applause and cheering from his supporters who may be approaching numbers to give him the Republican presidential nomination.
Trump may be “a pitiful absurdity that can simply be laughed off” because he will never get near the White House. However, his hateful rhetoric is inciting more bigotry among an already hateful Republican base and doing the hard recruiting work for ISIL by creating home-grown terrorists who will strike in the homeland before Republicans finish chasing them out of America to join ISIL.

ExxonMobil Defies Kochs - Warns Governments Must Intervene To Prevent Climate Catastrophe
ExxonMobil is the second leading oil corporation to publicly admit
that climate change is real, following Shell Oil's admission in March…
While many Americans are stocking up on guns and ammunition to kill
other Americans of the “wrong” religion, or the “wrong” sexual
orientation, or “all the wrong” races, they are sleeping through the
second greatest threat to their existence after the Republican cabal. Of
course, part and parcel of Americans’ ignorance of and opposition to
four decades-old data warning that man-made carbon emissions pose the
greatest economic and national security threat to Americans is the oil
industry’s deceit in pursuit of profits. A significant reason Americans
dismiss the impending climate catastrophe is due to being cognitively
incapable of connecting historic droughts, severe storms, deadly
flooding, and wildfires to climate scientists warnings about historic
droughts, severe storms, deadly flooding and increasingly intense
wildfires due to carbon emissions. To make matters worse, there has been
a four-plus decade-long oil industry crusade to portray global warming
as a nasty liberal hoax to destroy America.
Chief among the groups that learned in the 1970s that man-made carbon emissions would have “catastrophic” effects on the Earth’s climate was ExxonMobil. Instead of warning Americans, ExxonMobil took the lead
in funding massive misinformation campaigns and attacking climate
scientists. Then the Koch brothers got serious and began issuing
monumentally-large checks for Republican science deniers and oil
industry ‘experts’ to contradict climate scientists empirical data and
research.
It is important to reiterate that besides real independent climate scientists’ research in the 70s, it was ExxonMobil’s own scientists’ data and research warning the oil giant that climate change was “anthropomorphic” (man-caused), and that without immediate government intervention global temperatures “will reach catastrophic levels” and threaten the Earth’s population. Obviously, ExxonMobil, like the Kochs a couple of decades later, concealed the 1970’s science warning the climate is doomed; it is likely why today there are only 10 or 11 people among 300 million aware that climate scientists were screaming about global climate catastrophe over forty years ago.
Now though, in a break with the Koch brothers and all but a literal handful of Republicans, ExxonMobil’s scientists warned the Washington Post that “with no government action, average temperatures are likely to rise by a catastrophic 5 degrees Celsius (9-degrees Fahrenheit) with rises of 6, 7 (12, 13 F) or even more quite possible.” Climate scientists, even those denying anthropomorphic global warming, have predicted for a couple of decades, and issued dire warnings, that a rise in Earth’s temperature of 2 degrees Celsius is the deadly tipping point and “game over for the climate.”
It is certain that the Kochs, whose own scientists’ research agrees with climate scientists and ExxonMobil’s, and their dirt-stupid puppets in Congress and state legislatures nearly fainted when ExxonMobil used science to prophecy the climate’s demise. However, it is more likely that their heads exploded and their bowels emptied when ExxonMobil counseled what the government should initiate immediately to save the climate and billions of human lives.
According to the Washington Post’s “centrist” editorial page editor seeking some means of alerting Americans to just how “dangerously extreme the Republican cabal has become on climate change,” Fred Hiatt wrote that “Republicans’ ideologically based denial is dangerous and cowardly.” Hiatt then noted that ExxonMobil is the polar opposite of an environmental group like Greenpeace, but unlike the national cabal leadership, congressional Republicans and pretender candidates, “ExxonMobil believes climate change is real, that governments should take action to combat it, and that the most sensible action would be a revenue-neutral tax on carbon that taxes fossil fuels like coal and oil and returns the money to taxpayers.”
Although ExxonMobil just advised the federal government to take action to save the climate with a tax on carbon, the “carbon tax” was preemptively blocked
by Grover Norquist and Koch brother Republicans in the Senate last
March. There is no way in hell Norquist, or the Kochs, will allow
Republicans to aid in saving the climate or Americans with any kind of
tax, but particularly a tax on anything related to the cabal’s precious “fossil fuels;” materials that are as sacrosanct to Republicans as their devotion to fascist oligarchy and guns.
ExxonMobil is the second leading oil corporation to finally admit, in public, that climate change is real. So real, in fact, that last March Shell Oil admitted the climate is doomed and the company is planning for a 4-degree C rise in the Earth’s temperature. Shell also acknowledged that the 4-degree C rise eclipses the climate-killing 2C threshold and certain disaster. The oil giant began planning for a “planet-wide catastrophe replete with massive flooding, global famines, and desertification” in previously temperate zones. The “massive flooding” Shell is planning for is “sea water as sea levels will rise between 2.5 and 3.5 feet leading to widespread coastal flooding, animal and plant extinctions, and the near-decimation of global agriculture.”
Shell’s planning document, similar to ExxonMobil, did not waste time advising any government solutions because the corporation’s leaders accept the reality that Republicans will block any government effort to curb carbon emissions. Shell’s internal document said what a few Americans already know; “We do not see government taking any steps now that are consistent with 2 degrees C threshold scenario,” the tipping point of game over for the climate.
An optimist may believe that after two giant oil corporations weighed in, albeit too late, on the catastrophic temperature rise from carbon emissions, Republicans would give attention to an existential threat to Americans. However, despite pleas from the Vatican to address climate change as a humanitarian issue and 200 world leaders gathering to devise a planet-wide solution, Republicans remain steadfast in willful denial. And it appears that no amount of devastating weather events, droughts, wildfires, or flooding creating economic and national security havoc will affect Republicans. Despite mounting threats to civilization and corporate acknowledgment that action is required immediately, Republicans have ramped up their assault on President Obama’s efforts to address climate change.
It is a travesty, but as Paul Krugman noted last week, “the awesome, terrifying reality is that we’re looking at a party that has turned its back on science at a time when doing so puts the very future of civilization at risk. That’s the truth, and it needs to be faced head-on.” On the other side of the political spectrum, a member of the right wing anti-science echo chamber, opinion columnist David Brooks, made a different argument to come to the same conclusion as Krugman. Brooks explained that Republicans’ problem with climate change is that,
“The republican cabal has come to resemble a Soviet dictatorship — a vast majority of Republican politicians can’t publicly say what they know about the truth of climate change because they’re afraid the thought police will knock on their door and drag them off to an AM radio interrogation.”
That “commie dictatorship and thought police interrogation” will come down from the Koch brothers and their substantial corporate media sycophants, not oil industry giants. Still, even though ExxonMobil and Shell Oil are predicting a planet-wide climate catastrophe without concerted government intervention, Republicans will continue doing the Koch’s bidding and as Paul Krugman said last week; doom the Earth’s population.

Obama Gets Standing Ovation For Bashing Trump’s Muslim Ban In Slavery Speech
Obama Annihilates Trump’s Proposed Muslim Ban With Pure Powerful Presidential Eloquence
The President said:
And that’s what we celebrate today. The long arc of progress. Progress that is never assured, never guaranteed, but always possible, always there to be earned — no matter how stuck we might seem sometimes. No matter how divided or despairing we may appear. No matter what ugliness may bubble up. Progress, so long as we’re willing to push for it; so long as we’re willing to reach for each other.
We would do a disservice to those warriors of justice — Tubman, and Douglass, and Lincoln, and King — were we to deny that the scars of our nation’s original sin are still with us today. We condemn ourselves to shackles once more if we fail to answer those who wonder if they’re truly equals in their communities, or in their justice systems, or in a job interview. We betray the efforts of the past if we fail to push back against bigotry in all its forms.
An election that was thought to be dull is offering America a profound choice. The path that President Obama laid out today is one that is full of hope and consistent with our values as a nation. The choice that Trump is offering is one based on giving into our fears and taking the coward’s way out.
Much has been said about Trump’s proposed Muslim ban, but no one has made the case against Trump as powerfully and eloquently as President Obama did. This president has given more than a few speeches that deserve to be required reading for future generations, but his speech today was one of historical greatness.
No one would blame Barack Obama if he lost hope after the way that his critics have treated him during his presidency, but Obama has gone in the opposite direction. The uglier his critics got, the more he stressed hope. President Obama has never lost hope in the greatness of America.
Obama destroyed Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims, and in the process demonstrated the character of a true leader.
