Bernie Sanders Now Has More Donors At This Point Than Any Other Candidate In History

Bernie Sanders real time
During an interview on NPR, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders announced that he now has more individual donors than any other candidate in history.
Sanders said, “When we began this campaign six months ago, I’d say that 80 percent of the American people did not know who Bernie Sanders was, what I stood for. First polls that I saw had us at three percent or five percent. We have come a very, very long way. We have hundreds of thousands of volunteers in fifty states in this country. We have received more individual contributions, 750,000, than any candidate in American history at this point in the campaign.”
The number of donors is impressive by any standard, but Sen. Sanders also addressed the question that will make or break his campaign. Sanders discussed how he planned to attract the support of African-American Democrats.
Sanders said, “If the elections were held today, just among the African-American vote, we would lose. But I think we have a real path to winning the support of the African-American community for two reasons. Number one, I’m just not well known in the African-American community… That’s just simply the truth. We have to a lot better job in discussing my record which in the United States Congress is the strongest records of any member in terms of civil rights. Number two, I think even more importantly… the African-American community and the Latino community are struggling in a nation in which our middle class is struggling… the issues that we are focusing on, rebuilding the economy and in the process creating UP TO 13 million decent paying jobs, many of those jobs will be for minority communities. Making public colleges and universities tuition free will benefit everyone in America, but even more so, the African-American community.”
Bernie Sanders is very competitive with Hillary Clinton in states where white voters dominate the primary/caucus electorate (Iowa and New Hampshire). Sen. Sanders is losing badly in the states that are more representative of the makeup of the Democratic Party as a whole. All polls show Sen. Sanders losing by large margins in South Carolina and Nevada, but for Bernie Sanders this campaign is about something bigger than winning the Democratic nomination.
To understand why it is important that Sanders has inspired over 750,000 people to donate to his campaign, one must view the Sanders campaign as a political movement. The Bernie Sanders movement isn’t going to end if he does not win the Democratic nomination. Even if he loses the Democratic primary, Bernie Sanders will return to Washington as one of the most powerful leaders in the country.
No other senator can claim to have a movement of millions of people behind them. Bernie Sanders is building a political movement that could potentially change a nation. That is why the 750,000+ donors matter, and why to understand the success of Bernie Sanders one must look beyond the polls and towards the future beyond the 2016 election.

Bernie Sanders Blows Up The Koch Publicity Tour With A Ten Megaton Truth Bomb

bernie sanders truth about the koch brothers
Bernie Sanders stopped the Koch propaganda tour dead in its tracks by delivering the facts about the Koch brothers agenda on MSNBC.
Transcript via MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes:
HAYES: That’s Charles Koch expressing his commitment to ending corporate welfare. Do you buy that, Senator?

SANDERS: Making life for people better – no doubt. Look, in 1980, Chris – and we don’t talk about this enough – David Koch ran for vice president of the United States on the libertarian party’s ticket. What his agenda was was not to cut Social Security or Medicare, but to end Social Security, end Medicare, end Medicaid, end the EPA, end the concept of the Environmental Protection Agency. Basically, he wanted to eliminate virtually every program developed since FDR designed to help working people end the middle class. That is their agenda. And to tell you the truth, you know, 30 years have come and gone. I don’t think that agenda has changed at all. What these guys are doing is spending unbelievable sums of money, from $900 million on this campaign cycle, to support right-wing candidates for going to war. Big-time against working families and the middle class. No, I do not think the Koch brothers want to make life better for ordinary people.
The idea that the Koch brothers are out to help ordinary people is laughable to anyone who follows politics, but the mainstream press is very willing to kiss the Koch ring and give the brothers a platform to redefine themselves as altruistic patriots who are looking out for the little guy.
Sen. Bernie Sanders was one of the first leaders on the left to speak out against the Koch agenda, and he absolutely destroyed the myth of the benevolent brothers Koch with a little bit of recent history. The Koch brothers want the government to have no role in anything domestic that does not involve aiding the wealthy and corporations. The Kochs’ idea of helping people involves taking away Social Security, Medicare, government regulations that protect people from environmental hazards, eliminating rules that help to keep our and water clean and safe, tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, and rolling back every bit of progress that has been made for working Americans since the New Deal.
The Koch brothers have money, but Bernie Sanders has a movement of millions of Americans behind him.
The Koch brothers launched their publicity tour because they are losing. Sen. Sanders is beating the billionaires with the facts, and the senator from Vermont used the truth to stop the Koch publicity machine dead in its tracks.

Nancy Pelosi Picks 6 Pro-Choice Fighters For Planned Parenthood Investigative Panel

pelosi-fist
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has named 6 Democrats to the Select Investigative Panel on abortion providers. Democrats initially considered boycotting the Republican cabal-convened committee altogether, but they have since decided to have members of the minority party present, to stand up for the truth.
Pelosi and the Democrats came out swinging on Wednesday, by referring to the panel derisively as “the Select Committee to Attack Women’s Health”. Even without that verbal barb, Democrats made it clear they were ready for battle, as Pelosi’s list of names includes six of the strongest pro-choice advocates in the U.S. House.
Pelosi chose Illinois Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky to serve as the ranking Democrat on the committee. Schakowsky will be joined by four other Democratic women–Jackie Speier (CA), Dianna DeGette (CO), Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ) and Suzan DelBene (WA). New York Congressman Jerrold Nadler will join the five Democratic women as the lone Democratic male representative on the panel.
In announcing her appointees, Pelosi stated:
I am proud to name six strong champions of women, families and facts to stand up against the latest Republican assault on women’s health. Hard-working families deserve better than a taxpayer-funded Republican Select Committee fixated on dismantling women’s health.
Schakowksy made it clear she would fight for women’s reproductive rights, announcing:
I can assure you, my plan is to be on the offensive. . . I think the Republicans will actually regret having started this witch hunt.
Rep. Jackie Speier sounded a similarly combative tone, stating:
On their first day in power as a majority in 2011, Republicans introduced H.R. 1, a bill to defund Planned Parenthood. They have introduced bills attacking women’s health with a vengeance ever since, and earlier this year they threatened to shut down the government unless we de-fund Planned Parenthood…
Now they’ve set up a Select Committee with no apparent purpose but to spend millions of taxpayer dollars demonizing Planned Parenthood. We have to make sure the public gets the truth: That 2.7 million women and men a year use Planned Parenthood for health services like cancer screenings, pap smears, and STD tests, and those services save lives.
Rest assured I will fight to make sure the needs of millions of people who use Planned Parenthood and are often ignored in this ideological debate — people whose lives will be deeply affected by the outcome — will be heard.
The 6 Democrats Nancy Pelosi chose to serve on the committee are some of the strongest advocates for women’s health in the House. They will fight to uphold the truth, and Republicans may indeed end up regretting ever picking this battle to begin with.
