Will Colorado Become the First State to Implement Single-Payer Health Care?
by Michael Corcoran,
Montana governor rips wingnuts: They ‘hate 4-year-olds’ enough to block federal pre-school funds
Obama Drops The Veto Hammer On Wingnut Sanctuary Cities Bill a.k.a The Trump Act
President Obama is stopping a Trump inspired Republican bill that would crack down on sanctuary cities dead in its tracks by vowing to veto the legislation.
The legislation that was proposed by Vitter, who is also running for governor of Louisiana, has drawn the rage of Democrats by demonizing all immigrants. Senate Democratic Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said, “This vile legislation might as well be called the Trump Act, like the disgusting outrageous language championed by Trump. Republicans are not really proposing this bill to solve any problems within our immigration system. This Trump Act was designed to demonize immigrants and spread the myth that they are criminals and threats to the public.”
Senate Democrats are expected to block the bill before it gets to a final vote, but just in case it might pass, the White House dropped the veto hammer on the Republican cabal.
Via a Statement of Administration Policy:
The Administration strongly opposes S. 2146. This bill fails to offer comprehensive reforms needed to fix the Nation’s broken immigration laws and undermines current Administration efforts to remove the most dangerous convicted criminals and to work collaboratively with State and local law enforcement agencies.
The bill would also jeopardize the ability of State and local governments to receive Federal funding that is critical to their efforts to ensure public safety and to tackle serious problems facing their communities. For some jurisdictions, it would deny funding for cities to implement a wide range of community development and housing activities, including public safety enhancements and neighborhood-based community policing efforts and investments to increase access to affordable housing, and eliminate blight and support neighborhood planning. The bill would also essentially turn State and local law enforcement into Federal immigration law enforcement officials, in certain circumstances. The Administration believes that these provisions would lead to mistrust between communities and State and local law enforcement agencies; undermine the ability of law enforcement to keep communities safe across the country; and impede our efforts to safely, fairly, and effectively enforce the Nation’s immigration laws.
If the President were presented with S. 2146, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto this bill.
The bill is nothing more than another empty stunt by McConnell that places trying to score election-year partisan political points ahead of passing legislation that will deal with the problems facing the country.
The United States needs comprehensive immigration reform, not cheap stunts that are inspired by Donald Trump. The fact that McConnell scheduled a vote on the bill demonstrates that Trump is becoming the leader of the Republican cabal.
Trump is taking over, and his terrible ideas are being voted on in the Senate. Thanks to President Obama and Congressional Democrats, Trump’s race-baiting won’t become law.
Trump Calls Sanders A Socialist-Communist-Fascist-Marxist-Nazi
by John DeProspo
I am old enough to remember when being educated was considered a desirable thing. Believe it or not, there was a time when words had meaning and facts mattered. Oh, those were the days!
In seventh grade social studies, I remember learning about different types of world political and economic systems. We were taught the differences between capitalism, socialism and communism.
Trump, the leading Republican pretender candidate, recently called Democratic candidate, Bernie Sanders, a “socialist-slash-communist.” Now I know that can’t be true; that those labels have different meanings; that Sanders is not a communist. But it doesn’t seem to matter. The Republican base that Trump is pandering too just loves it! The moniker has two scary words side by side!
To Bernie’s credit, he calls himself a democratic socialist.
“What democratic socialism means to me,” Sanders said during a recent speech in New Hampshire, “is having a government which represents all people, rather than just the wealthiest people, which is most often the case right now in this country.”
Bernie Sanders believes “democratic socialism” is just an extension of the New Deal and the Great Society, both of which defined the Democratic Party in the 20th century.
But can any candidate in the United States win an election with the word “socialist” attached to their name? Or was Bill Maher right when he told Sanders on his cable show, “They hear ‘socialist,’ and they think ‘herpes,’ Bernie.”
In a recent Gallup poll, Americans say they are more likely to support an atheist than a socialist for president next year. Just 47 percent of Americans would vote for a socialist if their party nominated one, while 50 percent said they would not, while 58 percent said they would have no problem voting for an atheist in their party.
Bernie Sanders is not a communist nor a true socialist, as Trump has accused him of being. But perhaps Bernie needs to lay off the socialist label, even if he tones it down with the “democratic” modifier. He may be overestimating the average voter’s knowledge of different political systems and underestimating their gut hatred of the dreaded “s” word.
Bill Maher could be right. No one likes herpes. And very few Americans know the differences between socialism, capitalism and communism anyway!

Republicans Plan To Harm Disabled Veterans And The Troops With Default
Wave that flag.
Guess who will get screwed by Republicans? The Ways and Means Democrats warn the following might be defaulted on:
· Pay and benefits for 1.4 million active duty troops and 827,000 troops in reservesThe Treasury Department concurred, so it’s not just partisan fears (of course, Wall Street is shaking as Republicans take them to the brink again, and even the Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal is also terrified, so definitely not just Democrats who are alarmed), “Prioritizing principal and interest would mean paying some of our creditors – many of whom are foreign institutions – while defaulting on across-the-board payments everywhere else. That would include payments to members of the military, veterans, and senior citizens. It would include payments on infrastructure projects. In this scenario that America defaults on its obligations, there would be no way to prevent significant disruptions and hardship for millions of Americans. Default would undermine confidence in the creditworthiness of the United States.”
· Benefits to almost 4 million disabled veterans who served their country with honor and now need our help to live
· Payment for health care for nearly 5.9 million veterans cared for at VA hospitals and health centers
· Education assistance for nearly 1.1 million veterans
· Home loan support for nearly 630,000 million veterans
· Earned payments to American small businesses, who earned more than $91 billion dollars for goods and services rendered last year, and used those dollars to support more than 550,000 jobs
· Payments to nearly 1 million doctors and other health care practitioners who provided health care to Medicare beneficiaries
· Payments to schools for nutritious meals – 30.5 million children participated in the school lunch program
· Payments to almost 50,000 National Institutes of Health grantees, who are conducting life-saving medical research and providing an estimated 300,000 jobs
Significant hardship is coming once again to Americans, courtesy of the same party that brought them the 2007 recession and 2008 great wipe out of their savings and retirement accounts. For what reason? Oh, just Republicans wishing they could defund the surest way to reduce the abortion rate because socking it to women is worth cratering the economy once again.
Republicans say this is about “spending”, but of course, the spending has already happened, what they are doing is refusing to pay for what they bought. And also, spending under Obama has only gone up 7.9%, which is not very much.
Would any sane person consider giving Republicans the White House again? George W Bush cratered the economy, and now Republicans are cutting holes in the rescue boat, tossing the life preservers over the side — not even saving any for their own. They’ve become total jihadists, out to get America no matter what.
It Gets Worse For Republicans As Republican Cabal Busted For Lying About Access To Emails
Democrats caught Republican Benghazi Select Committee members in a
stone cold lie when Gowdy and Westmoreland claimed that
Congress did not have access to Amb. Ted Stevens’ emails.
Select Committee Chairman Gowdy (R-SC) said on Face The Nation, “none of the seven previous committees bothered to access the emails of our Ambassador.”
Republican Select Committee Member Pompeo said on Meet The Press, “How on earth could any of the other committees have completed their work properly without access to the senior person on the ground’s emails?”
Today on CNN, Committee Member Westmoreland said on CNN, “Wouldn’t you want to know the emails of the guy that was there that was murdered and what he had asked for as far as help from the people he worked for? We’ve just now gotten those emails. We have just now gotten them. Nobody else had requested them. I haven’t had a chance to read them. We didn’t get them until the day before yesterday.”
The Democrats on the Benghazi Committee responded by crushing this Republican lie:
Contrary to Republican claims, multiple committees of
Congress—including the Oversight Committee on which Chairman Gowdy
serves—had access to many of Ambassador Stevens’ emails for years. On
November 24, 2014, and December 9, 2014, the State Department produced
to the Select Committee approximately 25,000 pages of documents that had
already been “previously produced to Congress.”
Some of these emails from Ambassador Stevens included:
– an August 19, 2011, email exchange between Special Envoy Stevens and the Deputy Director of the Office of Maghreb Affairs about the logistics of providing security for a temporary duty officer to be assigned to eastern Libya (C05392462);
– a September 6, 2011, email from Special Envoy Stevens explaining why he felt it was important to maintain a U.S. presence in Benghazi (C05389447);
– a June 12, 2012, email exchange between Ambassador Stevens and the Director of the Office of Maghreb Affairs about the security situation in Benghazi (C05409960);
– a June 13, 2012, email exchange between Ambassador Stevens and State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland about the Department’s public statements in light of recent violence in Libya (C05391866);
– an August 30, 2012, email exchange between Ambassador Stevens and the Principal Officer in Benghazi discussing a press report about the security situation in Benghazi (C05397290); and
– a September 8, 2012, email exchange between Ambassador Stevens and the Political Officer in Tripoli discussing a schedule for Ambassador Stevens’ upcoming travel to Benghazi (C05395356).
Political observers have witnessed this behavior during other debunked Republican scandals. House Republicans ignored reality when they were investigating the IRS scandal. Republicans have pulled this same stunt during the other Benghazi investigations.
House Republicans have nothing new to investigate, so they are reviving old lies, and pretending that the previous investigations never happened.
The lies are piling up, and House Republicans have nowhere to go but down. Democrats are shredding the Benghazi investigation before Hillary Clinton sits down to testify.

50 despicable things the shrub did before and after 9/11
Let’s look at 50 reasons, some large and some small, why dumbya inspired so much anger.
Team Jeb claims Dumbya 'inherited' 9/11 and recession
by Jon Perr
"If I had one humble criticism of President Obama, it would be to stop this notion of somehow framing everything in the context of 'Everything was bad before I got here' and focus on his duties, which we all want him to succeed. But constantly pushing down the previous president to make yourself look good I think is a bad thing."Of course, these are pretty amazing statements for Jeb to make. After all, from the moment the shrub first took the oath of office Republicans—including Dumbya himself—have never stopped blaming Bill Clinton and even Barack Obama for the slaughter of 3,000 Americans and the dismal economic performance that occurred during the shrub's watch.
Just ask Republican agitator and former Dick Cheney adviser Mary Matalin. In December 2009, she could have been speaking for the entire shrub team when she offered this masterpiece of Republican turd polishing:
"I was there, we inherited a recession from President Clinton, and we inherited the most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation's history."Just because the talking point was wrong on both counts didn't prevent conservatives before and after her from vomiting it up.

A Bad Day For The NRA As Federal Court Upholds Gun Safety Laws In 2 States
It was a bad day for gun nuts running the NRA as the 2nd U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan largely upheld tough gun safety
laws in New York and Connecticut, including restrictions on assault
weapons and high-capacity magazines.
CONCLUSION
To summarize, we hold as follows:
(1) The core prohibitions by New York and
Connecticut of assault weapons and large ‐capacity magazines do not violate the Second Amendment.
(a)
We assume that the majority of the prohibited conduct falls within the scope of Second Amendment protections. The statutes are appropriately evaluated under the
Constitutional standard of “intermediate scrutiny”—that is, whether they are “substantially related to the achievement of an important governmental interest.”
(b)
Because the prohibitions are substantially related to the important governmental interests of public safety and crime reduction, they pass constitutional muster. We
therefore AFFIRM the relevant portions of the judgments of the Western District of New York and the District of Connecticut insofar as they upheld the constitutionality of state prohibitions on semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity magazines.
New York State Rifle and Pistol Association plans to appeal the ruling.
New York State Rifle and Pistol Association has a close relationship with the NRA. The organization’s president sits on the NRA board, so today’s loss was a defeat for the powerful gun lobby.
The Court found that the prohibitions on semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity magazines in each state did not violate the Second Amendment. At a time when public support for gun control has jumped to 55%, the ruling is in line with the public’s frustration over the easy availability of guns.

White House Busts Republicans For Being Scared of Letting People Vote
In a press briefing today, Press Secretary Josh Earnest acknowledged that “the amount of time and energy that Republicans have spent trying to make it more difficult for people to — for eligible voters to cast a ballot is mind-boggling.” Earnest deadpanned, “I’m not really sure what they’re scared of.”
Earnest also called out the point, “(t)here is documented evidence that those were strategies that were predicated on a political benefit for Republicans.”
From the press briefing:
Q All right. On another subject, there’s a big controversy brewing in Alabama. Thirty-one DMV offices in minority, rural, urban communities have been shut down, and that at a time when there is concern about the infringement on voting rights as well as this upsurge with voter ID. What does this administration feel about that? And what particularly is this White House looking at in reaction to this, if there will be a reaction?
MR. EARNEST: Well, I did see that Secretary Clinton had an opportunity to talk about this issue, and she expressed I think some legitimate concerns about measures that we’re seeing, once again, being put in place to try to make it harder for people to vote. The amount of time and energy that Republicans have spent trying to make it more difficult for people to — for eligible voters to cast a ballot is mind-boggling. I’m not really sure what they’re scared of. But the fact is the President, I think on a number of occasions, has made clear that the principle of allowing eligible voters to cast a vote is central to our democracy. And I think the President said that much more eloquently than I just did when he traveled to Alabama himself earlier this year to mark the 50th anniversary of the march in Selma.
That continues to be our principle here. And we hope that both Democrats and Republicans in Alabama, and in every other state in the country, can live up to that principle.
Q So the governor of Alabama is saying that it’s not racial. The two issues here — voter suppression and possibly racial discrimination — do you see both clearly? Does this White House see both clearly?
MR. EARNEST: I’m not going to comment on this specific matter because I haven’t had an opportunity to look carefully at it. I do think that it sort of — I think that the reason that we’re having this conversation is because there are legitimate concerns that have been raised about voter ID laws in the first place. And we’ve seen reports that some Republicans — many Republicans across the country acknowledge that this has a political impact that benefits Republicans, and in some cases, has a disproportionate impact on certain populations.
Q But when you get into the weeds of what you just said, that’s race. Am I correct?
MR. EARNEST: Well, I think that’s what some people have observed. But again, I’m not talking about this particular incident because I don’t know enough about the details to talk about it. But when it comes to voter ID laws, when it comes to the way that Republicans have, time and again, taken steps and implemented policies that make it more difficult for eligible voters to cast a ballot, yes, in some cases, there is documented evidence that those were strategies that were predicated on a political benefit for Republicans. And that certainly runs counter to some of the basic and most important principles of our democracy.
Earnest wouldn’t answer as to whether the Department of Justice would be getting involved, and directed reporters to them.
As reported here by Keith Brekhus on October 1 of this year,
http://www.politicususa.com/2015/10/01/passing-voter-id-law-alabama-closes-drivers-license-offices-democratic-counties.html
In 2011, Alabama passed a voter ID law that required voters to provide a government-issued state ID to vote in elections. Critics charged that the law would make it disproportionately difficult for poor voters and African-American voters in the state to vote. Republicans brushed off those criticisms by suggesting that the voter ID law was instead designed to eliminate in-person voter fraud, despite the fact that in-person voter fraud is almost non-existent.
However, Alabama has announced that it is now closing 31 driver’s license bureaus throughout the state, leaving 29 of the state’s counties without an office where voters can easily obtain a state-issued driver’s license. Not coincidentally, the impact of closures will be disproportionately felt by low-income voters. Also unsurprisingly, offices targeted for closure are heavily concentrated in predominately African-American, Democratic-leaning counties.
Republicans are desperate to keep people from voting because it’s the only way they have a chance of winning. How pathetic is that?
2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called the closures a blast from the Jim Crow past, urging Republicans to “listen to their consciences.”
Insert laughter here.
Republicans should be afraid of getting a reputation as the party against liberty because that would make their flag waving, and war drums a bit difficult to sell.
