Maine Legislative Committee Votes Unanimously To Investigate Wingnut Teabagger LePage

The unanimous vote to investigate LePage is a sign that even his own cabal has grown weary of the bullying tactics he uses to get his demented way.…
angry Paul LePageThe members of Maine’s legislative Government Oversight Committee voted unanimously to launch a formal investigation into whether Republican Paul LePage improperly used taxpayer money to force Good Will-Hinckley to fire House Speaker Mark Eves.
Eves, a Democrat, had been hired by Good Will-Hinckley to serve as its President, but the offer was withdrawn after LePage allegedly threatened to withhold 530,000 dollars in annual funding for Good Will-Hinckley’s Charter School, the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences. LePage has admitted that he threatened to pull funding unless Good Will-Hinckley terminated their employment agreement with Eves, but the governor insists what he did does not amount to blackmail.
Good Will-Hinckley has agreed to pay Eves 30,000 dollars for severing the employment contract. Eves is planning on filing a federal civil rights lawsuit against Governor LePage for his role in forcing Good Will-Hinckley to end the employment agreement.
The bipartisan Government Oversight Committee has six Democratic and six Republican members. Members of both parties are calling for an investigation. Republican cabal co-chair Roger Katz, wasn’t quite prepared to throw his moron under the bus, but even he acknowledged that the moron’s behavior warranted an investigation. Katz stated:
The events of the last few weeks involving Good Will-Hinckley are troubling and, as often happens in partisan politics, it seems that some people are going to their corners and are ready to fight. Most people in Maine just want to know what happened.
LePage’s legal team argues that the Government Oversight Committee does not have the authority to investigate the governor. Eves’ attorney, David Webbert rejected that absurd argument, stating:
The governor’s wrongful refusal to submit to any oversight by the Legislature regarding his use of funds appropriated by the Legislature is consistent with his wrongful and dangerous view that he can use state funds to blackmail a school with the threat of the loss of state funds.
LePage and his legal team seem to believe that the moron should be allowed to do as he pleases without accountability or oversight. However, members of both parties in the legislature disagree with LePage’s dictatorial view of the governor’s scope of authority. The unanimous vote to investigate the governor is a sign that even his own cabal has grown weary of LePage’s corruption and the bullying tactics he uses to get his way.

Fox News’ Eric Bolling Says Progressive Boycotts are Economic Terrorism

The gang on Fox News' The Five absolutely lost it when Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the city is reviewing its contracts with Donald Trump…
Eric-bollingFreedom – freedom of speech, freedom of religion – you know, those things only wingnuts have. Any level of hate and bigotry can be excused by invoking freedom.
We have seen conservative countless boycotts against various companies – Target and Angie’s List have been recent targets – against movies and television shows, based on various objections, and one wingnut cabal even wanted to boycott Labor Day.
Yet if someone other than wingnuts call for a boycott, it is “economic terrorism,” says Fox News’ Eric Bolling.
The progressive-hating gang on Fox News’ The Five absolutely lost it when New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the city is now reviewing its contracts with Donald Trump because of his “offensive and disgusting” comments about Mexican immigrants, that “When Mexico Sends Its People … They’re Bringing Drugs. They’re Bringing Crime. They’re Rapists.”
De Blasio’s actions – not Trump’s – left The Five co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle asking, “should government really be in the business of bullying over political correctness?”
Greg Gutfeld continued his over-the-top portrayal of a irascible truth-teller, saying de Blasio “is such an ass, he’s 45 percent crack,” and called the mayor a “barnacle of capitalism” who can only exist thanks to heroic figures like Donald Trump.
That’ when Bolling chimed in, complaining that, “MoveOn.org is petitioning to boycott Donald Trump’s products. They are economic terrorists.”
Freedom is not uni-directional. If Trump has freedom of speech, so too do the recipients of that speech. If Trump says bigoted things, people have a right to respond by calling him out for it, or by refusing to buy his products, or by watching his shows.
If it is bad business to continue a professional relationship with him, other companies have a right to refuse to do business with him – like Univision, or NBC, or Macy’s, which ended their relationship with Trump on Wednesday – because it will hurt their bottom line.
These other corporations are, after all, in the business of making profits. And Republicans – and Fox News in particular – always defend corporations.
That is, unless corporations do something they don’t like, as when they championed LGBT rights over Indiana’s business-killing RFRA.
It asked if boycotts are economic terrorism, then what is refusing to serve gays? That is a case of a store owner boycotting the customer, rather than the customer boycotting the store. Isn’t that then also a form of economic terrorism?
Guilfoyle asked, “Should government really be in the business of bullying over political correctness?” but that question can be expanded too, to ask if government should be in the business of bullying over gender or sexual preferences? Fox News is fine if the latter is the case.
In many ways, The Five is a worthy successor to Glenn Beck, whose replacement it was when it first aired. It is certainly designed to attract the same niche, that is, viewers who don’t care about facts, who want bombast over content. Like Beck, it’s got Roger Ailes’ hands all over it.
The Five’s gang of crack-heads are just continuing what Megyn Kelly, Sean Hannity, Steve Doocy, and Bill O’Reilly have begun by leaping to The Donald’s defense. It is worth noting here that Bolling’s name belongs right up there.
This is the guy who said in 2011 that “I Don’t Remember Any Terrorist Attacks On American Soil” Between 2000 And 2008. This is the guy who said in February this year that there aren’t any examples of recent right wing terrorism in this country, despite the fact that wingnut terrorist attacks are pretty much the only kind of terrorist attack we get in this country.
Just a couple of weeks ago (June 17) Bolling got caught out by Dana Perino, who used to lie professionally for the shrub junta but has apparently found she still has an ethic or two, and the triggering topic was Bolling’s bromance with Trump:
PERINO: And covering up for him is actually wrong. And I understand that you have a deal that you’re trying to work on with him. I saw the Twitter last night. I just don’t see how that’s any different than how another journalist is actually pandering when you said you’ve been trying to close the deal for years for you to be on Celebrity Apprentice.
BOLLING: Oh, my dog. You actually think that I — I’ve been friendly with Donald Trump for 15 years.
PERINO: You’re the one that was shouting it from the rooftop yesterday.
BOLLING: Are you actually saying you’re going to accuse me of saying that Donald Trump has some good ideas that are resonating with America because I want to be on Celebrity Apprentice? Please tell me that’s not the case.
PERINO: I am saying it.
She said it. But that should be the beginning of the dialogue, not its end.

Oklahoma Supreme Court Shocker

Earthquake Lawsuit Against Oil Industry Can Proceed

OklahomaEarthquakes
For far too long the oil industry has wreaked havoc on the population and the environment with little, to no, pushback or regulation to protect Americans. In fact, it is a sad fact of American life that regardless the damage to the health and safety of Americans, Republicans in Congress and conservatives on the Supreme Court care more about the energy industry’s bottom line than they do Americans’ health, the environment, or the nation’s economic health. It was encouraging, then, that in a Republican-controlled state virtually owned by the oil industry, a High Court issued a procedural ruling that has the potential to hold the oil industry liable for injuring Oklahoma residents and damaging their property; but it was only a procedural ruling and no real threat to the Koch brothers’ industry.
In November of 2011, a woman watching television was injured during a (at one time rare) 5.0 magnitude earthquake as a result of the oil industry practice of pumping massive amounts of saltwater waste into the ground. The 5.0 earthquake, nearly unheard of in Oklahoma, was easily one of the largest on record and part of an alarming increase in earthquakes as a result of the industry’s oil extraction process known as fracking and wastewater injection. Sandra Ladra was injured when a two-story fireplace collapsed and crushed her legs.
In October a Lincoln County District judge, Cynthia Ferrell Ashwood, dismissed Ladra’s lawsuit against oil companies responsible for the earthquake, and came up with a bizarre notion that the court did not have jurisdiction over a wrongful injury lawsuit. Ashwood argued that the agency tasked with approving the earthquake-causing drilling (wastewater disposal) operation, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, was the proper agency to handle a lawsuit against the oil industry. The Oklahoma Supreme Court rightly disagreed and said the proper venue for a lawsuit, and determination of guilt, innocence, or damages, was in a court of law with a jury trial. It has been the case forever that lawsuits are the purview of the judicial system in America, but for some mysterious reason the Oklahoma lower court judge believed that a corporate commission issuing approval for oil corporations’ earthquake-causing operations was best equipped to decide that the oil corporations were not responsible for the woman’s earthquake-caused injury.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court’s “procedural” ruling will certainly expose the Oklahoma oil industry to many more lawsuits, and jury trials, over damages from the unheard of increase in earthquakes geological scientists say are the direct result of large-scale wastewater injection wells from oil drilling operations. In fact, one Oklahoma state agency said it is “very likely” that the frequent quakes of magnitude 3 or higher are triggered by such operations. It is also very likely that those agencies, like the federal U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), are not yet owned, or under the substantial influence, of the Koch Congress or the powerful oil industry.
Over the past five years, a normally seismic-quiet state like Oklahoma has suffered a dramatic increase in unheard of earthquakes that geologists and researchers with the U.S. Geological Survey have blamed on the oil and gas industry practice of injecting massive volumes of saltwater left over from oil and gas drilling back deep into the Earth. Prior to 2009, Oklahoma experience just one or two 3.0 magnitude earthquakes each year. In 2014 alone, Oklahoma saw 600 magnitude 3.0 earthquakes that coincided with the doubling of Oklahoma oil production because the oil industry was given permission to “cheaply” inject vast amounts of saltwater found in oil and gas formations back underground and cause the state to experience unprecedented, and dangerous, earthquake activity. It was just one of those earthquakes that caused Sandra Ladra’s chimney to collapse and crush her legs which is why she is seeking medical damages in a long overdue lawsuit.
There are already other lawsuits pending against the energy industry in Oklahoma and hopefully they will face substantial public pressure, not just monetary damages, to stop the practice. The oil industry’s lawyers, and indeed the industry itself, are very angry that the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s move will bring additional lawsuits they claim will weaken the industry. What they really mean is that the industry’s profits will suffer from being held responsible for causing earthquakes that injure Oklahoma residents and destroy their property. Whereas the oil industry is worried about its profits from impending lawsuits, supporters of stiffer regulations protecting Oklahomans from a predatory energy industry are hopeful the “threat of energy companies being liable for earthquake damages may result in safer industry practices.”
The stark reality is that there is nothing, not even lawsuits and awards for damages, that will result in even one regulation of the oil industry to protect the people or the environment; even being hopeful that is the case is a fantasy that will never come to pass. America is, after all, a nation owned and operated by the energy industry and with the Koch brothers now firmly in control of both houses of Congress, and the conservative majority on the Supreme Court, it is certain that any regulatory activity affecting the energy industry will be when Republicans abolish the EPA and USGS. In Oklahoma’s case, residents should expect an oil industry-written regulation calling for the impeachment of the state’s Supreme Court justices who dared to allow a lawsuit against oil corporations to go forward.
One would like to give props and kudos to the Oklahoma Supreme Court for “allowing” Ms. Ladra to seek damages from the oil industry responsible for the earthquakes in a court of law with a jury trial. However, the justices on the state’s High Court are not to be praised too quickly because their ruling was not against the oil industry per se, but a reversal of a lower court’s decision that the corporate agency (Oklahoma Corporate Commission) granting the industry permission to create earthquakes is not the proper venue to hear a lawsuit against the oil industry it supports.
Instead, the lawsuit will be heard where it belongs; in a court of law likely presided over by the judge who dismissed the injured Oklahoma woman’s lawsuit in the first place. In a red state governed by oil industry supporters, it is likely the jury will find the oil industry innocent and fine the injured woman for having the audacity to expect restitution for an unnecessary oil industry-caused injury. It is just the way America operates and it will only get worse now that the Kochs own Congress and the wingnuts on the Supreme Court.
