Bernie Sanders Brings Liberalism To The Mainstream And Drops A Truth Bomb On The View

Bernie Sanders on The View
Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) shook up network morning television by exposing the truth about the Republican cabal on The View.
While on The View, Senator Sanders (I-VT) exposed the real face of the Republican cabal.
Sanders said, “I’m not happy to say this. We have a very lunatic fringe wingnut extremist Republican cabal. This is not the cabal of Dwight David Eisenhower.”
Joy Behar replied, “Well, they’re not all like that.”
Sanders continued, “Too many of them are. Too many of them really are now. You just heard Carson’s statement.”
Behar weighed in, “He’s on the fringe I think.”
Sanders said, “I’m afraid not. Really. Joy, I wish I could tell you that….You haven’t been around Congress too long. These are guys who basically believe. This is their agenda more or less. Huge tax breaks for the wealthiest people in this country cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, huge cuts to education. Virtually all of them are against a woman’s right to choose. Very few of them support gay rights. The right of gay people to marry. That is their agenda.”
Joy Behar is a very liberal person, but her questions represented some commonly held misperceptions about the current state of the Republican cabal that are likely to exist among many audience members of a show like The View.
People who don’t pay close attention to politics are likely to hold a view of the Republican cabal that is outdated and inaccurate. This is not the Republican cabal of Eisenhower. Today’s Republican cabal is not even the cabal of Reagan.
One of the real upsides of the Bernie Sanders campaign is that the Senator from Vermont has taken the liberal message national. Whether or not Senator Sanders wins the Democratic nomination, he has brought mainstream media attention to the liberal message.
Senator Sanders is exposing the Republican cabal for what it is, and he is opening the eyes of millions of Americans to what the Republican cabal has become.
It is easy for people who closely follow politics to treat what Sanders said on The View as common sense, but to the vast majority of the country what Sen. Sanders is saying is a revelation.

Obama And Democrats Close To Huge Victory As Republicans Cave On Budget and Debt Ceiling

senate-democrats-obama
President Obama and Congressional Democrats are close to a big win as progress is being made on a two-year budget deal that would raise the debt limit and force a major cave from Congressional Republicans.
Politico reported:
House Republicans will meet in closed session Monday night, as congressional negotiators and the White House near a two-year budget deal that would boost defense and domestic spending by tens of billions of dollars, and lift the debt ceiling until March 2017.
The ambitious accord, which is being negotiated by top House, Senate and White House officials, would boost defense and non-defense spending by $50 billion next year, and $30 billion the year after, split evenly between defense and non-defense programs. Negotiations are fluid, however, and details might change before legislation is filed. House Republicans are expected to discuss the proposal at their evening meeting.

The deal would give President Obama and Congressional Democrats everything that they wanted. The sequester cuts would be removed. Spending would increase. The debt ceiling would be raised for two years, and there would be no government shutdowns for the next two years.
Boehner and McConnell want this deal because they can’t trust their own cabal not to screw up and cost the Republican cabal any chances that they might have of winning in 2016. By taking the debt limit crisis and government shutdown threats off of the table, the Republican leaders hope to clear the decks for both likely new Speaker of the House Ryan, and the party’s 2016 pretender nominee.
Boehner and McConnell already know that a majority of Republicans will not support the deal, so they are going to have to rely on the crisis-busting coalition of Republican leadership and Democrats to get the agreement passed in both the House and the Senate.
If this agreement becomes a reality, it will represent a major victory both for President Obama and Congressional Democrats.
For years, Republicans have been living in a fantasy world where they believed that if they created a big enough crisis, President Obama would cave. However, when Obama vetoed the NDAA last week, he forced Republicans to blink.
A two-year budget agreement that raises the debt ceiling would end the crisis politics in DC, and give President Obama one of the biggest wins of his presidency. The deal isn’t done yet, but when it happens it will be the ultimate Republican cave.

“Once McCain put Palin on the ticket, Republican ‘grown-ups,’ who presumably knew better, had to bite their tongues. But after the election, when they were free to speak their minds, they either remained quiet or abetted the dumbing-down of the cabal.”

Kansans Despise Brownback’s Policies But They Voted For Him Anyway

Only 18 percent of Kansans are satisfied with Brownback, despite 'electing' him twice to be their governor. …
sam-brownback A statewide poll conducted by the Docking Institute of Public Affairs at Fort Hays State University finds that Kansans are extremely dissatisfied with teabagger wingnut Brownback and many of his policies. The “Kansas Speaks” survey, released on October 25th, reveals a political paradox. Kansans dislike the Republican moron and his policies, but when they had the chance to remove him from office, they couldn’t muster the courage to do it.
According to the survey, 61 percent of Kansans believe Governor Brownback’s tax policies have been a “failure” or a “tremendous failure.” 84 percent oppose requiring colleges to allow firearms on campus. 63 percent want to raise taxes on high income earners. 62 percent support Medicaid expansion. In other words, a majority of Kansans disagree with the idiot they elected twice. They disagree with him on a wide range of critical issues.
Only 18 percent of Kansans are satisfied with Brownback’s job performance in the deeply wingnut state, making him considerably less popular than Democratic President Barack Obama. 28 percent of Kansans are satisfied with Barack Obama’s job performance.
It would be easy to sympathize with the good folks of Kansas, because they are indeed suffering under one of the nation’s worst governors. Yet, they have only themselves to blame, because their wounds are largely self-inflicted.
After enduring Brownback’s disastrous first term, the masochistic Kansas electorate decided to vote themselves another round of pain, by reelecting him in 2014. Voters in Kansas are so programmed to vote for the person with the (R) by their name, that they seem almost incapable of doing anything else, even when their livelihoods are at stake.
Over a decade ago, Thomas Frank wrote his influential book, What’s the Matter with Kansas. The book argued that Kansans who voted Republican were foolishly voting against their own interests. Kansans were described as:
Sturdy patriots reciting the Pledge while they resolutely strangle their own life chances… small farmers proudly voting themselves off the land… devoted family men carefully seeing to it that their children will never be able to afford college or proper health care… hardened blue-collar workers in Midwestern burgs cheering as they deliver up a landslide for a candidate whose policies will end their way of life.
Over a decade after Frank wrote his book, his description still rings true, as Kansans have twice elected Brownback, only to see him implement policies that work against most of the state’s residents.
The “Kansas Speaks” survey sends a message that Kansans are fed up with Brownback’s devastating policies. Unfortunately, those aggrieved voters failed to express their dissatisfaction at the polls in November 2014, when their collective power could have made a difference. One can only hope they have learned from their mistake, but chances are in the next election, those disgruntled voters will pull the lever for Republicans yet again. Its hard to rescue people from their misery, when they seem so determined to make sure it persists.
